Barnum's Story...
"Hi there! I'm Barnum -- named after the circus person Barnum Bailey because I act like a big clown. The people here call me Barney for short. I had a very rough start in life -- I originally came from a breeder who had too many of us and couldn't care for us properly. It was rough and I often had to fight for food with my siblings. I was then taken in to a nice family who took very good care of me and started working with me so I could become a great dog. I have learned that I am much much to big to be jumping up on people and have finally gotten that down to an almost exact science. Sometimes I forget and go to try but if you tell me no and off. I get off or stop mid jump. I have also learned how to come when called. I'm very good at that and love it when you want me to come and see you! I've also caught on to how to Sit. I'm pretty good at this and will do this most of the times you ask me...sometimes you have to be a little patient with me, but I will sit for you eventually. You see I'm still very much a puppy and I need more practice at these things to get them down perfect. I like to learn and I'm very smart, but I need someone willing to work with me and be patient while I learn. I've got a lot of potential I just know it! I'm pretty good with most of the dogs I meet...although I don't like if they rush up to me and I don't get a chance to see them first. I am pretty gentle with the small dogs and do great with them. I'm also great with any dog that I am used to or have been around a lot. They're like a great friend! I don't mind the cats at all, but they seem so scared of me...I'm not sure why but I just leave them alone and don't bother them at all and they do the same. I love to be around kids...but sometimes I bit too big and rambunctious for the little ones. I really don't mean to hurt them, I just want to play with them and I forget that I am big and they are smaller than me, so for this reason I would do best with older kids. I also do not like to be left alone ... I sometimes can get into stuff but I'm really good if I have lots of toys and chews to keep me busy. I am okay with being kenneled, but may bark for about 5 minutes to start with, but the longer I'm at a place, the more this behavior goes away. The people here have many stories about me, and can answer any of your questions you have if you're interested in me...please give me a chance to be a happy family dog..."

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Barnum, a Watertown Standard Poodle dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Standard Poodle for sale in Watertown, or seeking a Standard Poodle dog from a breeder in Watertown.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Watertown already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Watertown breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Standard Poodle breeders who help with Standard Poodle rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Watertown paves the way for another one to be saved.
