DUKE's Story...
Duke is a 1 1/2 year old black male with cropped and silly ears that make you laugh -- they are a long crop but flip inward and stand only partway. He came to rescue from a shelter, where he was turned in by his family. He's nervous of new situations but soon attaches himself to a person and just wants love and affection. Duke is very very thin, and needs to gain 20-30 lbs or more. He gets along with other dogs. Cats are unknown at this point. We think he'd do best in a home with children 12 or older. Duke came to MAGDRL in June 2009.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

DUKE, a York Great Dane dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Great Dane for sale in York, or seeking a Great Dane dog from a breeder in York.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in York already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a York breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Great Dane breeders who help with Great Dane rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in York paves the way for another one to be saved.
