NELLIE's Story...
Nellie is a 3 year old black female with natural ears. She came to rescue from a shelter where she was taken after being picked up as a stray. When she first came to rescue she was so weak she couldn't even walk more than a few steps. She had worms, sores on her body, and a urinary tract infection. She was also quite a bit underweight and had to gain 15 pounds before she could be spayed. Now that she's feeling better, Nellie has proven to be a very sweet girl. She gets along with everyone... cats, dogs, and people. Though Nellie is a shy girl, she warms up quickly when she knows there are pets and rubs to be had. When she goes for a walk, she just beams from the attention. She is a great couch potato, doesn't take much room. Nellie will be great in any home; she's perfect for a first-time dane family. Nellie came to MAGDRL in May 2009.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

NELLIE, a York Great Dane dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Great Dane for sale in York, or seeking a Great Dane dog from a breeder in York.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in York already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a York breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Great Dane breeders who help with Great Dane rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in York paves the way for another one to be saved.
