My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Angel Boots
8-10 years old female
Blue Lynxpoint Himalayan

Boots was brought in by her owner for bloody urine. She had been urinating blood for over a year. Her bladder was uncomfortable, and when she started urinating outside the box she was made an outdoor cat. On physical exam she was very thin and weak, and she was severely flea infested. her owner declined all medical recommendations and requested euthanasia.

As an alternative, we offered that she relinquish Botts to the hospital, which she agreed to. We ultrasounded Boots' bladder, and she appeared to have a bladder tumor. We decided against aggressive treatment, but instead to keep her clean and comfortable and let her live out her remaining days with us at the hospital.

Well...several months went by and Boots was still with us. The mass in her bladder had not changed on ultrasound, and that is not consistent with the behavior of a bladder tumor. So we decided to take Boots to surgery. WE biopsied her bladder, and the results showed chronic inflammatory changes to the bladder wall (cystitis).

Boots has recovered remarkably well from surgery. She still urinates outside the box from time to time, but the blood has resolved and she uses the litter box intermittently. She is a very sweet cat, and happy enough to live with us at the hospital. However, I'm sure she'd enjoy a real home of her own, one that is a little less chaotic and stressful.

Thank YOU Bay Animal Hospital
