UPDATED BIO 09/19/09: Cappy is an itty-bitty 7 y/o 4# yorkie boy who is being fostered in Stuart, FL. Cappy came into the shelter with severe trauma to his left eye, which had to be enucleated. He continues to have episodes of low blood sugar and low body temperature, and is having tests done to try to figure out why. So far, nothing has come back that shows anything definite that could be causing these problems. Next week, Cappy will have an ACTH stimuation test to rule out Addison's disease. If the test results are normal, he will then be started on a prednisone trial to see if that can help his blood sugar stay normal. If you would like to help out with his vet bills, please consider making a donation.
UPDATED BIO 08/12/09: Meet Cappy - he's an itty-bitty 7 y/o 4# yorkie boy who is being fostered in Stuart, FL. Cappy came into the shelter with severe trauma to his left eye and had to have emergency surgery to enucleate (remove) his eye. His hair was very thin, probably from poor nutrition, but his coat is growing in nicely. His ear infections are clearing up and he has begun interacting with the other dogs in the home. Foster Mom is still working on his housetraining, as it appears he was never taught the appropriate place to go potty - both Foster Mom and the vet feel that Cappy was used as a breeder and most likely lived in a small cramped cage his entire life. He does have arthritis in his knees as a result, and will need a glucosamine supplement the rest of his life. Cappy is having problems maintaining his blood sugar at a normal level, and is being supplemented with Nutracal 4x a day between feedings. Once he is feeling better, he still needs to be neutered and have a dental. PLEASE NOTE: Because of Cappy's small size, he cannot go to a home with children. Adults only, please!!!
INITIAL BIO 7/9/2009: My name is Cappy! I am an itsy-bitsy 7 year old Yorkie and weigh only 3.1 lbs. I'm being fostered in Stuart, Florida. I came into the shelter with a bad problem. See, my left eye was hanging out of my head. Nobody knows why, but it was soooo skeery and it hurt real bad. I had to be taken to emergency surgery and have a fancy procedure called an eee-noook-leeation (basically, they had to take my eye out). It's OK though. FM told me my hair is going to grow over the scar, and nobody will even notice! Also, doggies like me can adjust very well to having only one eye.
I am a sweet little boy. The Dogtor also says I am very healthy. I am going to need to have a dental because my previous owners didn't love me enough to get my toofers cleaned. I also still need to be noot-ered. Yikes!
I've been spending the last few days taking it easy since I am on a lot of pain medicine and antibiotics right now to prevent an infection. FM says I am sweet as pie and will make a perfect addition to any family. Since I am such a little peanut, FM says I cannot go to a home with children. Adults only, please!!! Email FM if you wanna adopt me, 'kay? By the way, FM thought I'd be cute with an eye patch like a pirate. That's why my name is Cappy (short for Captain.... like Captain Hook). Isn't FM silly?
