We rescued Grandma and 9 other cats from a hoarder situation in Baton Rouge on February 25, 2007. APAWS found rescues or took in the other 50+ cats and 7 dogs. She was very thin, full of fleas and earmites, and her tail was full of infection and necrosis and was falling off. We took her to the vet right away. He recommended amputating her the same day. He removed the tail only just above the dead part, leaving a short stump of a tail. It has taken her several months of TLC. But, Grandma is doing great. She has put on weight and her coat has filled out nicely and softened. She loves attention now. She still however prefers not to be picked up. She will sit near you and enjoy a long petting session. Grandma is looking for a quiet inside only home where she can retire for her remaining years. Due to her age, Grandma has a reduced adoption fee of only $50.00, and if the perfect home comes along, we may even waive the adoption fee.
