Maverick is a bit shy when he first meets new people and will often bark at them, but he is becoming more and more comfortable with each day that passes. He is friendly with other dogs that he is well socialized with and loves to play, play, play! But, he's nervous and fearful with dogs he doesn't know (particular other fearful dogs!) and barks, growls and snaps out of fear. He would do best in an only dog home unless his new family is very experienced with techniques used to modify this type of behavior or willing to enlist the help of a certified behaviorist. By building his self confidence through training and gradually acclimating him to new things in a positive manner he can overcome his fears and enjoy encounters with unfamiliar humans and canines alike. He really is a sweet dog and a quiet boy who's crate trained and working on becoming housetrained too. Maverick is:
- current on vaccinations
- heartworm neg. & on preventative
- crate trained
IMPORTANT: Safe Hounds Beagle Rescue does not operate a shelter where the public can meet our dogs. All of our Beagles are cared for in a loving foster home. Prospective adopters MUST submit an adoption application and be pre-approved to adopt. Once an applicant is approved, we’ll begin a matching process—the right dog for the right home. Submitting an application does not guarantee that you will be approved. Please visit our web page: www.safehounds.com to learn more about the adoption process and to download our adoption application.
