Basil's Story...
4yr old neutered male - tri colored

Kid friendly: Yes with children over 5yrs

Cat friendly: Aggressively curious - will chase them

Dog friendly: Yes but prefers dogs his size or smaller

Basil is a wonderful, sweet curious boy that has never met a stranger. He's a typical hound in that he wants to be involved in everything and needs to know what is going on. He is crate trained and doing very well on potty training when let out on a regular basis. His foster home does not have a doggy door so we are unsure of how he would do with one. Unfortunately this boy has problems with both of his knees. His knee-caps are facing the wrong directions! this gives him a swagger - not unlike a dashing pirate. He is looking for a quiet home with little activity to spend his golden years. He is adept at guarding the couch - he is very good at holding it down so that robbers cannot carry it off. He is also fabulous at keeping away mice! no food dropped on the floor will be left there long enough to attract pesky rodents or insects. Due to his knee problems he needs to be a lazy indoor dog. Due to him not being able to exercise much it is recommended that he be fed a low-cal dog food to keep off the poundage. If you are looking for a low key no fuss dog to keep your feet warm and who will make
you laugh with his antics this boy will fill the void!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Basil, a Phoenix Basset Hound dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Basset Hound for sale in Phoenix, or seeking a Basset Hound dog from a breeder in Phoenix.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Phoenix already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Phoenix breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Basset Hound breeders who help with Basset Hound rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Phoenix paves the way for another one to be saved.
