My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bandit is a 1 1/2 year old, 75 pound, behaviorally perfect, potty trained, Great Pyrenees with impeccable social skills. He is cat friendly, he is glad to be bossed around by an old lady beagle and a middle aged, cranky, female Pyr, and every other dog in the world. He is happy to ramble around the house, loves to sit in the fenced yard and survey what he presumes to be his kingdom, and occasionally gets the zoomies but they last all of about 5 minutes. He is crate trained but he is typically left out in the home unsupervised now when the family isn’t home, but there were a few footware casualties initially because we left them out just begging to be chewed on. While behaviorally Bandit is 100 percent perfect, his hips are sadly not. When Bandit came to foster care he had a limp so we had him examined by our vets who determined he has two bad hips. We made an appointment with an orthopedic specialist to see what we were dealing with and both of his hips will at some point need intervention. In an ideal world, if funds were unlimited, he could have hip replacements but the specialist as well as our vets agreed, an FHO would also be just fine. His muscle mass is good, he is active, he is not in any pain, and has no visible limp now. He had been living in a kennel at a shelter when we rescued him so being able to move around freely in foster care has done wonders for him. The specialist felt that since he is not in pain and gets around very well the procedure should be put off until it was necessary which will likely be a few years, as long as he remains at a healthy weight and gets normal exercise. We realize finding an adopter for a dog that is likely going to need two costly procedures in his lifetime is no easy task, but Bandit is such a very good boy and we know that his special someone is out there. We have digital copies of Bandit’s xrays and a letter with all relevant information from the specialist that examined him this month. Bandit got a bum deal because he was the product of poor breeding but we want to turn his luck around and give him a long, healthy, happy life as a beloved family member.

This dog is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and current on flea/tick and heartworm preventative. This dog has tested negative for heartworms.
