My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Zeke is a lovely little rotti boy who loves life!

His first few months were spent with no rules or boundaries and he was the king of his castle, using his teeth and growl to rule the world! Zeke has been with us for less than a week now and while he was a bit grumpy at first at having rules to follow, he has accepted them quickly and graciously.

Zeke is a very intelligent boy and learns everything after being shown just one or two times. After one lesson he sits nicely and waits calmly for his food until permission is given for him to eat. After one lesson on the leash, he has learned to walk nicely beside the handler and has even learned the automatic sit when we stop walking. He will have no trouble learning anything you want to teach him, but most importantly, Zeke needs rules and boundaries in his life so that he can continue to understand that he is not the king of the world. He is still prone to temper tantrums when he doesn’t get his way, but once shown that that behaviour is not acceptable, he doesn’t test that boundary again. As new things come up, he will need to have a firm but kind leader who can show him how to properly behave in these situations.

Zeke has not had much opportunity to play with other dogs until just recently and he is still learning. The first day he was with a group of dogs he became so nervous that he sat by the gate and whimpered and wanted out. But after a few days he has begun interacting with the dogs, although his social skills are still lacking. He will need to continue to socialize with people and other dogs while he is still young to avoid any future problems when he gets bigger.

Zeke needs a calm family to call his own with no small children, as his temper tantrums often involve nipping. His new family will need to have experience with the breed and the challenges that can arise from owning a highly intelligent large breed dog. He will need someone who is committed to providing him with lots of exercise and ongoing training throughout his life, but who is calm, patient and understanding. He is not a couch potato and wants to explore the world! Zeke’s family must understand how to enforce rules and boundaries to continue helping him become a well mannered adult rotti.

Zeke is a snuggle bug who loves attention and cuddles and will make a wonderful addition to an active adult family. Zeke will be neutered before going to his new family
