My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Howie is Adopted

Howie is currently fostered in Chardon, OH, and his adoption donation is $250

Update 11-15-09 Howie is a good candidate for ACL Surgery which will run around 1500.00. We are trying to raise the funds to have it done.

Howie is a 6-7 year old male chocolate cocker spaniel. He has a temperament that you would want in a perfect companion dog. He is affectionate, playful, and very good in the house.
Howie gets along with other dogs of all sizes, and very well mannered when left alone in the house with the other dogs.
He is a total love! He enjoys kids of all ages and would fit into any environment with minimal training needs. (Pretty much just showing him the potty routine and where the food bowl is).
Howie is not food or toy aggressive and eats in a room with 6 other dogs. He seems to be a little hesitant because he doesn’t like eating in crowds, but he is learning that no one is going to take his food and adjusting.

Howie would like an environment where there isn’t a lot of yelling. He walks away if I need to correct one of the other dogs. He punishes himself even if he isn’t to blame (he never is… he’s perfect 10 )
Howie seems to enjoy older kids more than younger ones for this reason but loves both equally and will seek out love and play from anyone.
He has a good appetite and takes treats gently. He walks well on a leash and really enjoys being outside, playing ball, and chew hooves.
He has a wonderfully happy playful nature and ANYONE can handle this gentleman.

With every good there is a little bad… when Howie was turned into the shelter it was stated by his previous owner that he had a cruciate ligament issue with his back right leg.
He uses the leg constantly and doesn’t usually hold it up unless he’s been playing for a bit or had a long walk.
He will climb stairs, run, and walk with out much trouble.
He also has a slight heart murmur. We have had both evaluated by a vet, and will know shortly if he is a candidate for the the surgery to have the cruciate ligament repaired.
We will post an update when we know more.

Overall I can’t say enough good about Howie. He settled in amazingly fast and just really wants to be a part of a stable family that is going to love and appreciate him for the wonderful middle aged gentleman that he is.

Howie is neutered, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative and housebroken.
