Amos - Pending's Story...

Arrival story: My time was up at a shelter on the westside so I hitched a ride over to Waggin' Tails to find me a new home.

Approximate age / weight: 4 years old and a lanky 55lbs.

Personality: I am a bit shy but incredibly sweet. Everyone says so! I gravitate towards very gentle people. Loud noises, like slamming doors, a dropped utensil, may send me scattering to another room. I'm very reserved with strangers, very sensitive and sometimes timid. There have been no signs of any aggression whatsoever but I would be most comfortable living in a home without kids. I have met a cat and wasn't much interested in him. I am mostly a couch potato indoors and have good house manners which is why I am left uncrated when alone. I take treats gently and will allow you to put your hand in my food bowl while I eat. I only hop on one chair designated for the dogs. When outdoors I am a different dog... I love to run and romp in the yard. I am a sprinter at heart and you will have so much fun watching how fast I can go! I am also a super sniffer and keep my nose to the ground! My favorite things include sniffing in the backyard, ham and turkey coldcuts and belly and ear rubs. I like going for walks and riding in car but loathe the vet's office.

I have a mild injury to one of my front legs. After visiting the vet, he determined I have an old injury on a joint that flares up when I use it too much. You'll just need to keep an eye on it for me.

Forever home: I'd like a quieter home life. I'm a pretty mellow dog but like to stretch my legs by running in the yard. I will need a fully fenced yard. Children will be too much for me and my gentle ways.

We do not have a facility; all of our dogs are fostered in private homes. To view our dogs, please check for the dates of our next adoption events. To meet a dog in person, please see our event calendar for the latest information. Arrangements can be made to meet our rescue dogs outside of Saturday adoption events after an approved application is submitted (the application does not imply an obligation by the applicant or by the rescue group).

Please be kind to our volunteers who have made rescue a second job that they do in their spare time after coming home from full-time jobs. E-mail inquiries will be answered much more quickly than phone inquiries; our phone number is a voice mailbox only.

Thank you for your support of rescue and your interest in a rescue dog!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Amos - Pending, a Northville Hound (Unknown Type)/Whippet dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Hound (Unknown Type)/Whippet for sale in Northville, or seeking a Hound (Unknown Type)/Whippet dog from a breeder in Northville.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Northville already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Northville breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Hound (Unknown Type)/Whippet breeders who help with Hound (Unknown Type)/Whippet rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Northville paves the way for another one to be saved.
