Duchess - PA's Story...

UPDATE 1/25/10: Duchess' flea/skin allergy is completely cleared up (although she never grew hair back on her tail or ears, and she can be a little "itchy" at times). I believe she just has sensitive skin and her new family would need to keep an eye out for allergies. Her thyroid levels seem to have stabilized and she just needs one more blood test in approx. 2 weeks to confirm that her meds dosage is good. Her weight has stabilized at about 10 lbs. and she looks great and is energetic and happy. She HATES going outside in the cold (what Dachshund doesn't??) and prefers to be inside even in the warm weather. She LOVES to sleep under the covers in the big bed and is a great snuggler, and can be difficult to get out of bed in the morning! Duchess gets along great with most dogs and enjoys "mothering" them - the only dog she doesn't like in my home (out of 7 other doxies) is another Alpha Female (they are both a bit bossy) She should definitely not be placed in a home with cats. Duchess will have to be on medication for her thyroid and a pancreatic problem for the rest of her life, and will need blood testing regularly to make sure her thyroid levels are correct. She also must stay on her prescription diet.

Update(11/16/09):Unfortunately, Duchess is under veterinary care for the next couple of months until some other health concerns have been addressed, so she cannot be adopted out right away. However, once she has been cleared for adoption, she will make a lovely addition to your family! Duchess is a total sweetheart, very affectionate. She will lick you to pieces if she is allowed! She is 80% housetrained and the skin infection that she initially had is mostly cleared up. She likes to sleep in the big bed and snuggle under the covers. Even though she is a tiny little girl, Duchess is an alpha female and likes to get her way - But she gets along great with all 6 of her foster brothers and sisters! In fact, Duchess will do best in a household with at least one other dog that she can snuggle with. Her bio will be updated as more information becomes available about her adoption status.

Hi, my name is Duchess! I am a 6 year old red smooth miniature dachshund who came to CCDR after retiring from breeding. I weigh about 9 lbs and have a white spot on my chest. I'm very sweet and friendly and get along well with the other doxies in my foster home. I am up to date on my vaccines, spayed, and had a dental. I have a flea allergy with a skin infection that I am being treated for right now, but once it clears up I should be just fine. My adoption fee is $150, and I will get back on the computer soon and update my story. Meanwhile, if you have any questions about me, please email my foster Mom at Catherinevaughan@yahoo.com.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Duchess - PA, a Jacobus Dachshund dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Dachshund for sale in Jacobus, or seeking a Dachshund dog from a breeder in Jacobus.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Jacobus already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Jacobus breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Dachshund breeders who help with Dachshund rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Jacobus paves the way for another one to be saved.
