My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Gordy is a very loving 3 yr. old Shih Tzu boy who has overcome a lot in the time he has been in foster care. Gordy was taken from his littermates when he was too young and, living with two very elderly people until they were unable to care for him any longer, was not at all socialized with other dogs. In the shelter he was terrified of their noises and hid in the corner of his cage. Of course, that didn't make him show well with potential adopters.

Coming into foster care, he was literally up to his eyeballs in other dogs - 10 others to be exact. Fortunately, all but one were a good deal smaller than he so it wasn't quite as frightening as the shelter. But he was still scared and would cry when any even came near him. Over the weeks he began to adjust and is now not only tolerating them, but initiating play. I'm very proud of him! He's also stopped thinking of the cats as toys - they do appreciate that!

I've already said that Gordy is very loving (and loyal) - but he also has a stubborn streak and will challenge authority. We felt that might be a problem with an adoption so we recently took him to the University of Pennsylvania's Ryan Veterinary Hospital's Behavior team for evaluation and help with his issues. After a thorough 3 hour evaluation, the team felt that Gordy was definitely adoptable and gave us lots of information for behavior training. They will also be happy to work with his eventual adopter at no additional charge if needed.

Gordy is being fostered near Mays Landing, NJ and his asking adoption fee is $275.

NOTE: Due to the volatile price of gas, getting multiple volunteers to help with long distance transporting is no longer feasible. We have listed the town and state where each dog is being fostered. Please consider how far you are willing to travel when filling out the application. The foster home will usually volunteer to help with transport for a reasonable distance.
