Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Colby is Adopted
Please read Entire bio before applying. No small children
Colby is currently fostered in Mentor OH, and his adoption fee/donation is $350
Colby is a 12 month old male cocker spaniel, he came to our rescue from a shelter in VA, where he was surrendered by his owner. He was given up due to behavior issues.
Colby has been in a foster home for almost a month now, and we have been able to evaluate his behavior. He is truly a good dog, a very sweet boy!! However, there are problem areas that will need worked on by his adopters, he will take some work, but he has great potential. First of all, he is only 12 months old, which still qualifies him as a puppy. Puppies can be wild and crazy, they can push boundaries if allowed, and they can cause problems. Colby is a high energy dog, he is a jumper, will jump up on tables, and has a dominant personality with other dogs.
He can be a “BULLY” with other dogs that he comes into contact with, depending on that particular dogs confidence. When put in a situation with an alpha male or female, he will end up submitting, and can get along very well with this type of tempered dog. If put in a situation with submissive, not so strong willed dogs, he will bully them, and it will not go well. He is currently fostered with 3 other dogs, and the confident/more dominant dogs, he does fine with, the others he will continuously pick on. He may be best as an only dog, but will need a strong leader of an owner to keep him disciplined.
Colby can also be pushy/dominant with people, especially those that are wishy washy, in-experienced people. In the presence of an experienced, confident owner, he will thrive. Colby has a very soft and cuddly side to him, he loves to be loved on and to be played with. He needs someone confident that will be “Alpha” over him, someone not afraid to stand up to him and be “the boss”. It is amazing how well he does when with the right handler/owner. He just needs to be taught, and know what his role is, and what the boundaries are for him.
Colby is house trained, and very healthy, he needs lots of exercise and a fenced yard where he can run free is preferred. If you wish to adopt Colby, we will need to see that you have experience, and are capable of handling him, he is not a dog for just anyone, he needs to be with the right owner, and WE Will DECIDE which applicant is the best fit for him. We want to place him where we know he has the best chance for being successful, both for himself, and his adoptive owner.
Colby is current on all vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped and neutered
