My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

AUNTIE M SAYS A BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT HAS HELPED ME. SHE ALSO WANTS TO SAY A BIG THANK YOU TO CASEY FOR TAKING SUCH GREAT CARE OF ME!!

GUESS WHAT...I NOW HAVE $395.00 TO HELP ME GET BETTER!!!

UPDATED BIO 11/22/2009: Well, I almost got adopted..... but turns out I like to chase kitties and my new owner (and her cat) did not like that. Well, if you have room in your home for an older guy like me, and you don't have cats, let my FM know, 'kay?

UPDATED BIO 10/27/2009: Adonis here. Not much new to report. :) I'm 11 years old and 12 lbs. I haven't given up hope that there's a home out there for an older guy like me. Remember, I'm VERY healthy! My bloodwork was great. My toofers are clean! I'm noot-ered. I'm getting a doggie hairdo' soon. I know I can be adopted. I just know it.

Well, my FM took me to an adoption event this past weekend. There were a couple of people who thought I was a cutie-patootie. They never came back to see me again though. FM says she could cry how people overlook me and other seniors out there up for adoption, like people don't want to get attached to older dogs. Here's what I think..... I'm gonna be around on this Earth for as long as I'm meant to. Nobody really knows except the big DOG in the sky. Remember, though, Yorkies can live until their late teens! You might just be surprised how many years we have left together. Why not help make my golden years the best years of my life? I'm guessing that won't be hard to do since whoever dumped me at the shelter after 11 years of life probably didn't care too much about me anyway.

This is a new pic of me from the doggy event. See, I'm a happy guy. I need a teensy weensy bit of help in the housetraining dept. In my defense, there are LOTS of dogs where I am now. I think I'm smart enough to figure it out when we can have some one-on-one time and there aren't so many darn smells! Well, I gotta go. Maybe you wanna give me a home? Huh?

UPDATED BIO 10/18/2009: Adonis here. I'm 11 years old and weigh 12 lbs. I was surrendered by my owner who didn't want me anymore. I'm not sure why since FM says I am a sweet little guy who just wants a lap to hang out in. An occasional walk would be nice too! I promise I don't act like a geriatric dog! I just look like one! haha. I had bloodwork done when I came into rescue. It was PERFECT! I had my toofers cleaned and only lost one! I'm going to get my haircut this week; so stay tuned for my dapper new 'do!

Well, what else is there to say about me? I'm trying to market myself here...... Well, I'm the perfect dog for someone who wants a loving companion, but maybe they work during the day? Maybe they're older themselves and don't want to walk me 6 times a day. Maybe they just see the promise a senior has and think I deserve to live the rest of my years in comfort? Well, if you're any of those people, let me FM know, 'kay?

UPDATED BIO 10/1/2009: Hi! I'm Adonis. I'm an older fella who thought I was just going for a regular car ride when I ended up at a very high-kill shelter. I am 11 years old and almost 12 lbs. Now, I'm not gonna say, "I told you so"..... but I TOLD YOU SO! Monday I went to the Dogtor. She checked me out, listened to my heart, and took some of my blood to check out my organs. I am PERFECTLY FINE! My heart is fine. No murmurs. No irregular beating. My labwork was just about perfect. Also, my cataracts are not bad at all. They're very very mild. (no more than to be expected). I am getting my toofers cleaned today and am a little nervous, but FM told me I'm gonna be fine. :)

I love to jump up on the couch, and love my walks. I love my humans too. I'm in the market for a new human. After today, I am ready for my new home. Do you maybe wanna take me home? I'll be no trouble. Cross my heart!!!

ORIGINAL BIO 09/28/2009: My name is Adonis. I am 11 years old and weigh 12 lbs. Well, I see I'm not much competition for the younger guys and gals here on this site. I'm an older fella. I've got gray in my muzzle, and I've got a little cloudiness in my eyes. I guess that's why my owners turned me in after 11 years of living with them. Maybe they didn't like my gray hair?

At first I really wasn't sure what was going on. My cage was kind of small. Nobody came to let me out except twice a day when they cleaned my cage and tied me to a post. If my owners were boarding me, I was DEFINITELY going to have to tell them that this was no Four Seasons! Well, I got the hint, and knew I needed to find a new family fast... but nobody wanted me. I mean, how could I compete with the puppy on my left, the young dog on my right, and the countless dogs that kept coming in day after day after day. I had just about given up hope.

They called me an "Owner Surrender". Us "Owner Surrenders" don't get a mandatory 5-day stray hold like the stray dogs get, giving their owners time to find them if they're even looking. Owner surrenders are on borrowed time from the moment they walk in the door. (I'm sorta glad I didn't know that at first). Well, a nice lady from United Yorkie Rescue came and met me. She took a look at me and thought, "Boy, he's gonna be a tough one to adopt." Gee thanks, Lady. Well, she saw that I may be 11 years old, but I am no geezer! I am a strong boy who has a lot of life and love left in me! So, she sent my picture to the big boss of UYR. Her name is Mary. Mary told me I looked like her boy Toto. I am apparently the same age, the same weight, and the same coloring as her Yorkie - the one who inspired her to begin rescuing Yorkies. I overheard her tell the nice lady not to let me die..... I had been at the not-boarding facility for 4 days. I don't think there was going to be room for me for much longer.

Well, that's my story. My nametag was still on my leather collar when my new FM brought me home. It said "Adonis". I wish someone treated me like an Adonis. Here's what she knows about me so far. I love to go for walks. I am sweet and love to sit on your lap. Just let me hang out with you, watch TV with you, and maybe take me for a stroll or in your golf cart. I'll be just fine. We can be buddies. Just promise me that if you go out of town without me that I get to pick the hotel!
