Lucy's Story...
This 40 pound cattledog mix girl was lost and running loose around a neighborhood before she came to us. She is a very happy and lovable pup who adores people and does fine with kids. She has a great time at our monthly adopt-a-pet days, where she gets to meet lots of new people and enjoys being around the other dogs. She'd be a great dog for a family with kids; with her friendly, confident personality she'd easily adapt to an active household with kids and friends of all ages coming and going. Not surprisingly for a cattledog mix, she is very active and if she gets the chance she'll roam, looking for other doggy pals to play with. Like all dogs, she needs either a fenced yard, or a family that will take her on walks (preferably both!) Lucy has one great trait for a dog - she likes water and actually enjoys baths. She's even small enough to take a shower with you, which makes having a clean dog pretty easy. Lucy is quickly learning housebreaking, but we already know she's a natural at it - when she was first found, her rescuers had to keep her in their garage for long periods of time. When she had to potty, she would open a bag of mulch and scoop some out and make herself a potty spot! Now if that isn't a smart dog, we don't know what is!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Lucy, a Athens Australian Cattle Dog dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Australian Cattle Dog for sale in Athens, or seeking a Australian Cattle Dog dog from a breeder in Athens.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Athens already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Athens breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Australian Cattle Dog breeders who help with Australian Cattle Dog rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Athens paves the way for another one to be saved.
