Isabel's Story...
The following was taken from a message to our rescue community. I think it spells out Isabel better than anything I could ever write, so.......... (FYI -- Georgie is another mill dog that is being taken care of by this wonderful foster "Mom" -- she is listed here on petfinder as Georgia)

As you know, we brought foster Isabel home on Saturday night, and she is ALREADY making progress! I must say that she already has been the most heartbreaking rescue that I've been involved with. On Saturday night, I wasn't sure that she'd ever come around. Generally mill dogs will be slow to "come around", but Izz acted differently from any I've ever seen.

She had no curiosity. She had no sparkle, no reaction, no...nothing. She didn't eat, she didn't drink, she didn't do anything. In fact, I had that sick feeling in my stomach that something might be VERY wrong with her, as she put up NO fight about taking meds, coming out of her crate, etc. I thought she might actually be dying of a broken heart. I woke up yesterday morning and the first thing I asked hubby was "How is Isabel?" I knew he must've been worried too as he'd already gone to the kitchen to check on her.

Well, along comes that little cartoon character, Georgie. Complete with her portly stance and flopping tongue, she has SINGLEHANDEDLY shown the new kid around, allowed her to nap in her house (something she doesn't allow the others to do), and taught her how to trot across the yard. Today at lunch, I came home to find Isabel up and wagging fiercly when I peeked around the corner. It was amazing!

Now the two are best buddies. And what an odd couple! Where Georgie is stubby and round...Izz is sleek and graceful. Georgie's face looks like something from a comic strip, and Izz looks like a model. I think Georgie could actually walk UNDER Izz's tummy!!

UPDATE 27 Jun 05 -- Word from Isabel's foster mom is that she doesn't like cats. So, at this time, we will not look at adopting her to any home that has cats there.

If you are interested in this or any other dog being fostered by IGCA Colorado Rescue, please contact our local Rescue Coordinator (saryna244@frii.com) to start the adoption paperwork process.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Isabel, a Centinnial Italian Greyhound dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Italian Greyhound for sale in Centinnial, or seeking a Italian Greyhound dog from a breeder in Centinnial.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Centinnial already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Centinnial breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Italian Greyhound breeders who help with Italian Greyhound rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Centinnial paves the way for another one to be saved.
