My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Caramel is an absolutely sweet and affectionate young lady! She is around 1-2 years and definitely has the spirit of a youngster, too. She came in a bit overweight around 60 pounds, but has slimmed down a bit since then. She can still afford to lose a few more pounds, and if she continues to enjoy long walks and running around the yard and playing with her foster siblings and her toys she'll be fine! She also has floppy natural ears and a beautiful, long natural tail. We really don't know much about her past, though it is believe she lived a hard life outside prior to her coming into the shelter. She came into rescue heartworm positive and has scars around her neck from being tied outside. Such a sad life for such a sweet and affectionate lady!

She is currently living with three other females and two males (one of which is a small dog). She plays well with all of them and even snuggles on the couch with them whenever she can. She also makes a great snuggler with her human foster parents when it is time to be a couch potato, even trying to get up in the bed come bedtime if you'll let her. Oh is she a bed hog!

Caramel has met kids on numerous occasions and is actually quite gentle with them, not jumping on them, but sitting to allow them to pet her. She is currently working on her manners (not jumping on adults or counter surfing), crate training, leash training, and house training. She is almost an expert at all of them now! She is such a fast learner, and very treat motivated! She even knows "in" when it is time to leave so she'll go into her crate where she happily plays with her Kong toy. She is being fostered by Nina in Lake City, FL. If you are interested in adopting Caramel, please start by completing an online application.

Update from foster home:
We have had Caramel for almost four weeks now. In that time, I have observed that she will make some lucky family a WONDERFUL pet! She is always ready to give love and play. For her size and strength, she is amazingly careful and gentle with our smaller dogs, who are in no way gentle or careful with her! She is SO exuberant and playful, I believe she would need to be supervised with small children, to prevent knock-downs. Caramel is now housebroken, crate-trained, knows "sit" and "lay down." We are working on "off," "stay" and "settle." A basic obedience class would do her a world of good! If Caramel wasn't already named, we would have named her "Joy" because that is what she radiates. She deserves the very best!
