Gringo & Gomez's Story...
Gringo & Gomez would make a good pair to adopt together -- they're full of energy and keep each other occupied, running and racing up their carpeted climber. They and two other littermates were found at about age 4-5 weeks under an overpass on busy Temple Avenue in Colonial Heights near Golden Corral. They were fostered by a family with children until they were about 9 weeks old and then came to Cat Rescue for vetting and adoption. These are very loveable, kissy-face, lick-face, squeezable boys who love people and being held and petted. They like the electric blanket and enjoy tunneling under your blankets at night for a cozy place to sleep. They trill and chirp to each other as they play, and any toy or wad of paper is good for hours of fun -- they love playing with a squashed cardboard box in the bathtub and are fascinated with running water. They are VERY handsome with striking markings -- Gringo has more of a spotted look while Gomez is very stripey. You could easily change their names since they don't seem to answer to them at all at this point. They are strong, healthy and a year old, neutered and up-to-date on shots. If you're looking for super playful lap kitties, these guys are the best around!

Rescue Group Info...

About Our Rescue Group...
Cat Rescue, Inc., saves cats slated for euthanasia at overloaded shelters. No cat is adopted out prior to spay or neuter. The home organization is based in Chesapeake, managing the pet center in the Petsmart at Greenbrier Mall, Chesapeake. Adoptions number approximately 500 per year. We are a 501(c)(3)nonprofit, ALL VOLUNTEER, home foster based, no-kill organization. All donations and contracts paid are submitted to the director of Cat Rescue, Inc., in Chesapeake, Va., and are applied to food and medical needs of cats and kittens under the organization's care. The organization is committed to accepting any cat adopted from us if the owner for any reason has to give up the cat, for the rest of the cat's life; in effect, we provide a "life insurance" policy for these cats so that they never have to end up on "death row" in a shelter again.

Come Meet Our Pets...
CRI Petersburg manages the pet center at the Colonial Heights Petsmart. We respond to the store immediately for adoption interest, and we're also on station every Saturday, noon to 7 p.m. Please call to confirm and to ensure the cat you want to see will be at the store that day, since we don't bring all the cats. We normally have cats no younger than six months old. All are spayed/neutered and have distemper and rabies shots, are wormed and tested for feline AIDS and leukemia. As a home-based foster organization, the cats are treated as companion pets. All food and medical bills are paid by the foster family without reimbursement, so adopters are assured that their adoption fees go toward the care and well-being of cats in the organization, many who have staggering medical bills, or who are unadoptable and must be cared for throughout their lifetime by the organization. In general, the basic cost of vetting a normal cat without medical issues is $200-300, so the $75 adoption fee is far below what has been invested in each cat.
Our Adoption Process...
Our contract requires: No declawing (toe amputation) and indoors only. You'll complete an adoption contract and questionnaire, and a Petsmart adoption form. The adoption process takes less than an hour and your new pet can go home with you same day. Cost of adoption: $75, cash only, completely tax deductible and a receipt will be supplied. If a pair are adopted, or a senior cat, a discount price will be available.
We Serve the Following Cities, Towns, and/or Counties...
We are the Petersburg branch of Cat Rescue, Inc., which is based in Chesapeake, Va., serving the Petersburg-Fort Lee area. WE CAN ACCEPT NO CATS FROM THE GENERAL PUBLIC, only from shelters or as arranged by the director.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Gringo & Gomez, a Petersburg Domestic Shorthair cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in Petersburg, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair cat from a breeder in Petersburg.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Petersburg already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Petersburg breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Petersburg paves the way for another one to be saved.
