My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Griffin is Adopted

Griffin is currently fostered in Valley View Ohio and his adoption fee/donation is $300

He will be adopted under a neuter contract as he should not be neutered until 8 months old.

Let’s talk about this amazing pup, Griffin.

Griff is an adorable 4-month-old English Springer Spaniel. He came into our rescue from the Amish after being misdiagnosed with a cognitive disorder. It turns out, his brain and body work perfectly fine. Sometimes too fine ;)

What makes this puppy special is that he has zero vision up close and in front of his nose. The Vet says he’s pretty hopeless in terms of ever recovering vision. They believe it might have been lost due to a severe infection at a young age which damaged his eyes.

He started out in the world a little nervous and shy which is why they thought something was wrong with him. Turns out any dog would be a little nervous with bouncing balls of energy siblings coming at you from all directions but not being able to see.

Griffin came to his foster mom at 12-weeks-old and has lived with her and her four small dogs since. While in foster care, Griffin became known as Nick (because foster mom has a real-life human nephew called Griffin and that could get confusing.) But Nick is occasionally called Griff just so he knows both names.

He has grown from a shy and withdrawn puppy, to a rambunctious ball of energy who is more and more confident in the world around him. He will run full tilt across the yard, stopping before running into the car, running around it, and bounding up the front porch steps. So foster mom believes he must have a little vision, even if it’s just shadows. Vets only get 15-20 minutes with each dog. Foster mom has been with him for weeks so she says this boy can do magic and Griffin believes her when she says it, because he does just that.

One of Griff’s favorite things to do is collect all his toys and bring them to a pile on the couch and lay on them, playing with each one in turn. He is very very gentle with his toys and has a very soft mouth as is typical with bird dogs. He is incredibly good at coming when called. He will stop anything he is doing and bound over, usually stopping by running into foster mom’s legs. He will then promptly sit and wait for what is next.

Whoever adopts Griffin must know he is very loved and this will be a hard placement for foster mom so both she and the rescue will be very selective with who he goes to.

Because Nick does startle easily, homes with children under the age of 14 will not be considered. He would do well in a home that has the energy for a puppy and is willing to commit to the extra patience a vision impaired dog requires. He will do just fine in a home with other dogs that are close to his size. He loves to play, but foster mom’s dogs are old and boring and don’t like to play much back . So we imagine he will love to have siblings that will help teach him the ropes and play with him.

Nick can hike! He can run! He can enjoy just about every normal doggy activity, except fetch. He is a great walking companion and will stay right next to foster mom on long walks. He has learned to trust humans to direct him towards safe paths and keep him from harm.

When filling out an application, please take the time to include a narrative in the final comment section, and not just answer the questions with a yes or no.
