My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

11/13/09 Memphis is such a smart boy! He has graduated from basic obedience and from Manners class. We are so proud of beautiful Memphis!
9/20/09: Update from Memphis' foster: Memphis is a very sweet, active, silly young boy. He is currently living with our 2 dogs, a no nonsense 8 year old Rottie mix and a goofball 2 year old Yellow Lab. He does very well with both of them, he respects the 8 year old, gives him his space and listens well when he is told to knock it off. He loves to play with the 2 year old, which of course is mutual, it is sometimes difficult to get them to settle down. We also have 3 cats that he was initially terrified of, but now respects their space and ignores them for the most part. He is very silly and very animated, he made everyone in dog class laugh because he insists on jumping up like a bunny when we loose leash walk. He has graduated from a basic dog class, he is good with sit, down, very good with stay (without much distraction), he is good at coming-he just forgets to stop when he gets to me. :) He does get very excited when he sees a new dog, but settles down quickly. I think that he could be CGC certified in no time at all, he is very happy to learn and eager to please. He has come a very long way in just two month, when he first came to live with us he was terrified of EVERYTHING. He LOVES to go out for walks, he really enjoys walking through the woods, he even ventured into the water with our dogs to play a little fetch.

9/11/09: Hooray for Memphis! Check out his Certificate of completion of the Family Dog Course - Memphis, You Rock!

8-19-09 Memphis is such a great dog- loves everyone- kisses and licks and real snuggler. He is fine with poeple touching his mouth, ears and paws. Here is how Memphis spent the weekend...Memphis did really well up at my in laws' for the weekend, my mother inl aw even walked him and was very impressed with how good he is on the leash. He was very nervous at first, but warmed up very quickly. He LOVED going out on the boat, he kept running onto it and waiting for us to go out again. We had him drag a 50 foot long line all weekend and that worked out nicely, the only time I had to grab it was when he started digging under the porch, he stayed right near us the whole time. He was so tired every night, he never complained about being put in his crate and left in our room alone. He gets a lot of comfort from our dogs and I was very pleased with how brave he was without them.

8-9-09 Memphis is doing fantastic! It is amazing that he had lived for almost a year in a crate (for more than 20 hours a day) at a vet office in the South and now is able to do so well in a home! It shows how resilent dogs can be. Here is an update from his foster mom- "He is doing really well, I think that he is filling out-he certainly does have an appetite! He LOVES playing with Sampson, we have to separate them a lot in the house otherwise they would never stop. I have been walking him with Max and he is doing well. Tuesday we went to a "drop in" class because we weren't going to be able to get into a regular class, but there was a cancellation so we went again on Thursday night. It worked out really well, this way he was much more comfortable and able to practice some things. He is getting pretty good at sitting, although he is still nervous to sit in some situations. We are working on stay and come, we are also working on teaching him his name. In class on Thursday someone let their Cockapoo run right up to him and he did fine with it, I don't think that he has any small dog issues, he seems to love them all. The neighbor's kids came over to pat him and he did just fine with them. He does bark when we leave the house, when I am leaving for the day I am giving him a Kong and that seems to do the trick. We went to a new home to visit last week and took him with us, he did really well. He was shy, but still very friendly. He was sniffing around their place, then going over to them to lick them. He is a really good boy!!!" Memphis would make a wonderful family dog. He is getting along wonderfully with everyone in his home including cats and 2 other male dogs- he is a very submissive guy that really just wants to play. Memphis can hop like a rabbit and loves to play chase. He is a great size at about 35 pounds and has the most gentle mouth - will take treats very softly. He would be a wonderful family dog for some lucky family! **All dogs are in our partner shelters in the south unless marked "In Maine" or "In New England". **
