Here's what the humans have to say about me:
http://www.valleydogs.org/dogs/oliver-shep.html
Hello my name is Oliver. I was adopted as a puppy to be trained as a therapy dog. I did great and have extensive training and am even off leash trained. The problem is hospitals scare me. So, that is kind of a problem for a therapy dog. So, I am looking for a forever home to live out my days as a lazy and loving pup. I am not the best with larger dogs or dogs that compete for my attention or food. My family adores me but I am becoming pushier with the other dogs as I compete for attention. I would be best as an only dog.
Mom said I know the following commands:
* Sit, sit stay—stays for a very long time
* Down, down stay—will stay in down position forever
* Out—drops anything out of his mouth when asked to do so
* Leave it—very good with this
* Roll over— Likes belly rubs
* Shake and other paw, also responds to “give me 5” and slaps your hand with his paw
* Heel—means walk next to me or sit next to me when stopped
Oliver is basically off leash trained. He is always by your side in the yard or public areas. He is very attached to his master and respects you and the rest of the family. He clearly understands his position in the human pack. He will stay tight on your side regardless of the situation until release.
He has spots on his tongue. Does not make him a chow or shar pei since pure bred labs and goldens can have spots. He is a shepherd mix, some say shar pei, others think rottie, and some of his litter mates looked like rotties, but who knows. He is a happy pup.
Oliver is particular about what he eats. He likes the same dog food (Nutro large breed is okay but he really likes the Nutro small bites), does not like things mixed with it like eggs, canned food, or pretty much anything. Sort of likes biscuits but prefers soft treats. He will not generally take treats from people other than the family. His favorite thing is a stuffed toy. Believe it or not he does not destroy them! He loves to carry them around.
His home habits are perfect! Never gets on the furniture. Always goes potty outside and always in the same spot (easy cleanup). He does not even think about eating out of the trash can. His walks are the best part of the day. He waits for permission to exit the home and then walks gently with you.
Oliver is nervous when he meets new people in the house, but fine while out on a walk. He does not like sudden movement or noise. Oliver is exceptional with the kids. Lets them use him as a pillow when they read their books. He is good with children of all ages but, due to his size children 8 years or older would be best.
