My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Magic is a standard size Malamute at 90lbs, who had a massive pile of “Rastafarian” hair when we rescued him. He was such a mess! Whoever had him used a belt as a collar because the matted hair around his neck was so thick that there was no way a collar would fit, and even the belt was matted in the hair and had to be cut out. A 26” collar could barely fit over his head. After trying to put the collar on we realized that the matted hair on the back of his head was preventing him from even being able to look up, and it was as hard as cement. The poor dog was a stinky mess.

We spent days and days whacking at hair with every grooming tool known to man, but after finding a beetle’s nest in one of the mats we decided that all that hair was going to have to GO. So, now poor Magic is mostly naked, except for the lion poof on his tail and what little hair we could save around his face. At least, now he smells good and hopefully he will be back to his normal fuzzy self in a few months.

Luckily, Magic is heartworm negative, and his health check went just fine and he is now neutered and looking for a very special forever home. He does seem to have some atrophy from being tied out for so long and he seems to have a small issue with one of his back legs which we are checking on now. He will need someone who is willing to keep him groomed, his coat will be VERY long when it all comes back in. He is housebroken, and crate trained, and does just fine out of the crate at night. He will surf counters, and get into kitchen trash, but he is learning that is a no no.

He seems fine with other dogs (except for dominant dogs). He would probably be ok with cats too; he is fine with the cat at his foster home. He is a very sweet guy, with a beautiful soft howl, and wants only to be loved; he will make someone a wonderful addition to their family. He will be adopted only to a Malamute experienced home because he is still kind of shy with men and will grumble when he doesn’t understand what you want him to do. MAGIC WILL NEED A HOME WITH NO SMALL CHILDREN!!! (he is afraid of them). We are happy to have Magic safe with us at CTHAA and look forward to finding him a home that can handle the tail wagging, wiggling and all that wooly hair when it grows back in.

All dogs are spayed or neutered prior to adoption, up to date on all vaccinations, heartworm tested, on heartworm preventative year-round, and microchipped for identification.
