Dexter's Story...
I’m Dexter, a big handsome basset boy and probably the best-looking senior basset ever! At 10 years old, some people might think I’m over the hill. But I’m just getting started on the next chapter of my life! My story started with the family that had owned me my whole life turning me into a shelter. Then the AZBHR folks stepped up and offered to help me out, and it’s been easy street ever since. I got vaccinated and microchipped, and treated for ear infections. And now they are going to pay for my dental cleaning and surgery to remove some tumors. The only thing I have to do is lose some weight first. I’m rather hefty at 80+ pounds, but my foster mom says there’s just more of me to love. And I do love being loved and being with people. I’m great with other dogs and cats, and love to snuggle with my fosters or in a big doggie bed. I like car rides and long walks too. I’ve still got a lot of ‘pep in my step’ and would love to have another hound to hang out with. If you’re looking for a calm, collected, good-looking boy – I could be your fella!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Dexter, a Phoenix Basset Hound dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Basset Hound for sale in Phoenix, or seeking a Basset Hound dog from a breeder in Phoenix.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Phoenix already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Phoenix breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Basset Hound breeders who help with Basset Hound rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Phoenix paves the way for another one to be saved.
