Smokey's Story...
Smokey is a 6 year old spayed and declawed female kitty who was surrendered to the NHS because the elderly owner was no longer capable of caring for her. Smokey is a nice cat who is fitting in well with shelter life despite her age. She was only used to an older person so may be best suited to a home with children 12 years and up. She may also be best as the only pet in the home given her age and the fact that she did not live with other pets in her previous home. Smokey has been at the NHS since February 2010.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Smokey, a Port Hope Calico cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Calico for sale in Port Hope, or seeking a Calico cat from a breeder in Port Hope.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Port Hope already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Port Hope breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Calico breeders who help with Calico rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Port Hope paves the way for another one to be saved.
