My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Tonka has had a very rough life so far and is just learning the joys of having a happy, loving and stable home. Tonka came to IMPS with a healed over gunshot wound to his left hind leg. Tonka had massive reconstructive surgery on his leg and is now using it about 90% of the time, whereas before he would rarely if ever use the leg. As a result of Tonka's wound and surgery he will need to be on a glucosamine supplement for the rest of his life so that he retains function in that leg.

Tonka is a very shy little guy and will take some time to warm up to his new family. Once Tonka love's and trusts his new family he is super friendly and always very happy to see his people.

Tonka absolutely loves the company of other dogs, he will do best in a home with at least one other dog that will be his friend. Tonka is not picky, he loves ALL dogs, he currently plays with my male and female Min Pins, my male Pit Bull and my male Mastiff.

Tonka is one of the most well mannered dogs I have ever met and he is an absolute sweetheart, even though he does not trust people right off he never reacts to new people touching him, Tonka has never tried to bite anyone that has had to handle him, even when he has been in severe pain. Even though I say all this I believe that Tonka would be happiest in a home without small children, he gets scared easily and it may be too much to have to deal with the quick movements of small children.

Tonka was heartworm positive when he came to the rescue, he has been through treatment and is now heartworm free.
