My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hey there, Goobs here! Actually Goober is just my nickname – along with some others but I won’t tell you them just yet. I am a large, goofy, clumsy, fun, lovable 3 year old male that weighs just under 70 pounds .I can get very antagonizing with another dog so I would do best in a home that has another dog that wouldn't mind putting up with me but don't worry I get along with everyone that I meet.

I was surrendered by my previous owners that actually saved me from going to a shelter about 8 months ago, which I am grateful for. However, they were no longer able to take care of me, so thanks to B.A.R.C. I was brought into the rescue program. I have been in my foster home since April and live with a female Boxer and two Chihuahuas. I have been getting along with my Boxer foster sister and really enjoy playing with her. I just pretty much ignore those little dogs, they’re no fun because I can’t play with them. My previous owners had plenty of cats that lived outside with me so I am use to being around cats and just ignore them also. Even though I was kept outside for those 8 months I have re-adjusted to living inside of a house and not once have I had an accident, even when I am not crated at night.

I have learned my boundaries and know to just eat and drink in my own area and have found my place in the pack. I am willing to go into my crate but I do have some separation anxiety and will bark; which I am trying to get over but I really love being around my humans and you will have to be patient with me on this. I don’t have any bad habits and love going out and playing so I would do best in a home that can keep me active and I would love to have a playmate (human or dog) that would play with me a lot. I also need a fenced in yard so I can run around and I love going for walks and car rides. I would probably do well in a home with children. You just have to understand that when I get to playing with another dog or with my toys I can get a little carried away and not pay attention, so I could knock young children down. I can also jump about 3-4 feet in the air from a standing position. Oh and I almost forgot to mention this, and don’t laugh, every once in a while I try to chase that little nub they call a tail, but I never seem to catch it.

My foster parents can’t believe that I won’t get onto the couches or beds and had to go out and buy me my own bed to sleep on (which everyone else wants to sleep on it now) so you will have to be willing to buy me my own bed too. I can follow commands such as sit, come here, down and stay, pretty well but haven’t mastered the whole shake thing just yet. I do okay on the leash and only pull for the first couple of minutes when I go for walks. I will be your shadow and follow you wherever you go so I hope you won’t mind that but I do need a strong pack leader to keep me in line.

Unfortunately, I am heartworm positive and will need to go through treatment prior to adoption. However, if the right family comes along and is willing to help me thru treatments then I would love to come live with you before then. I also just had a large “bump” on my head removed that has made me a more handsome fellow. I want to say thanks to Dr. Shores and the great staff at Shores Animal Hospital in Gainesville for taking great care of me. I am neutered and all my shots are up to date.

If you want to know my real name and want to get to know me more, I’ll ask my foster family to consider you for my adoption after you have filled out an application and are approved. I am being fostered by Eric & Kim in the Gainesville area.

I look forward to meeting you soon!
