My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Zeus and Zoey are not in the Closer to Home Animal Advocates program. We are listing them as a courtesy to their owner.

Zeus and Zoey are cousins who turned five (5) years old in February 2010 and January 2010, respectively. Both have been fixed, are AKC registered, are current on all of their shots and have gotten year round heartworm prevention. They have been together since birth and we would love to find a home for them together.

Zeus is a male with brown eyes and a whitish grey coat. Zeus loves to be petted and has been known to nose Zoey out of the way to hog attention. He'll curl up by your feet where ever you may be sitting or sit on the floor next to you just waiting to be petted. Zeus can be a bit mischievous if left alone for too long and so keep your prized possessions out of reach! In 2006, Zeus had an episode of bloat and almost died. His stomach is now affixed to his rib cage to prevent it from flipping in the event he bloats again.

Zoey is a female with brown eyes and a whitish grey coat. While Zoey loves to be petted, she is more independent than Zeus and will often sit off on her own. Zoey has also been known to be mischievous, so while cooking don't leave food too close to the edge of the counter! Zoey is the alpha of the two. When Zoey was a puppy she had to have bilateral TPLO surgery and has metal plates and screws in her hind legs. I give her supplemental glucosamine treats to help prevent any joint stiffness. To date, this has never been an issue or impeded her from walking/running in any way.

Both dogs are extremely friendly with people. They are also friendly to other dogs which are not aggressive, but do not like cats, squirrels, birds or rabbits. Everyone in the neighborhood always comments on how beautiful and friendly they are…and are always quick to give an adoring pet over or through the fence. Zeus and Zoey have never jumped the fence, but they would try to get away if given the chance through an open door or gate. When they were younger they were trained to stay in the yard via an Invisible Fence.

Both are used to being in the house and I would consider them house dogs. They are not allowed on the furniture and do not sleep in human beds. They will let you know when they need to be let outside. They love walks and get very excited when they hear their leads jingle.

If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, please fill out and submit our online application. Vet and personal references will be checked and a home visit is required.
