Derby's Story...
UPDATED BIO 05/26/2010: My name is Derby. I am 4.8 lbs. I went to the Dogtor last week for my second set of puppy shots, and boy oh boy was foster mommy shocked! The Dogtor says that she thinks Olivia and I are not littermates and that my teeth appear to be that of a dog 1 month older than Olivia. So......... she thinks I am closer to 4.5 months and that Livi is closer to 3.5 months. Crazy, huh? Foster mommy says considering our history, it's not impossible. So, we're now thinking I may grow to be 8-9 lbs.

What is there to say about me? Anyone who knows puppies knows what I'm like. I'm fun fun fun, always getting into trouble, love to chew things (appropriate AND inappropriate things), love to give kisses, and LOVE to play. I am a very good boy but I am taking a little longer to learn to be potty trained than my sister. (My foster mommy snickered a little just now...... I wonder why??) Anyway, I'm a whole bunch of fun. Do you have the energy for me?

INITIAL BIO 05/02/2010: Derby here! I'm a rough and tumble 3 month old boy puppy! I weigh 4.4 lbs and am always on the go-go-go and love to run (hence the name!... you know? Kentucky Derby?). I was confiscated by the Animal Cops (the same ones as on Animal Planet!) and found my way to United Yorkie Rescue with Olivia (whom we think might be my sister... even though she's half my size). There's not much to tell about me yet. I'm a lot of fun and love to play (I chase all the foster furkids in the house!). I don't mind if you steal my toys or my food like Olivia does. I'm more laid back I guess.
I'm about 60% potty trained to the wee wee pad. I appear to be very healthy. My only real issue was that my coat was very matted when I came into rescue. FM had to cut out a lot of matts. Once I receive all my puppy shots, I am going to get my hair 'did. I am going to be even HANDSOME-ER than I am now! Isn't that a word? Handsomer? How about Handsomest? Well, Olivia and I are going to the Doggy Dogter tomorrow to get a full checkup. Wish us luck!
Derby's FM here! Derby is a love. He's a real playful guy who loves to find trouble. Beware your shoes, papers, socks, etc. LOL. He won't be ready for at least 2 months until he's old enough to be neutered. Like with Olivia, I'm anticipating a lot of interest in this little guy. I will try to post as I know more about him to try and cut down on emails. Thanks for considering rescue!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Derby, a West Palm Beach Yorkie, Yorkshire Terrier puppy was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Yorkie, Yorkshire Terrier for sale in West Palm Beach, or seeking a Yorkie, Yorkshire Terrier puppy from a breeder in West Palm Beach.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in West Palm Beach already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a West Palm Beach breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Yorkie, Yorkshire Terrier breeders who help with Yorkie, Yorkshire Terrier rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in West Palm Beach paves the way for another one to be saved.
