Smokey Joe's Story...
Smokey Joe’s foster mom says:

“When Smokey Joe showed up on our front porch looking for a meal, he was a very scared boy. He would run as soon as he noticed us watching him, but kept coming back for another meal. After realizing that he hadn’t been fixed, we took Smokey in to be neutered and vaccinated, and released him again with plans to continue feeding him if he returned to our porch.

Despite his visit to the vet, Smokey Joe kept coming back to our porch for more meals. We were caught by surprise a couple of months after his vet visit when Smokey very cautiously let us touch him. From that moment on, Smokey never looked back and has become everyone’s best friend. He is a very affectionate gentle giant who appreciates a warm lap to sit on. If I stop petting him and try to walk away before he’s done getting pets, he will tap me with his paw as if to say, 'Hey, get back here, I'm not done yet!'

Smokey has beautiful pale green eyes and when he looks at you it is as if he is looking right in to your soul. A couple of Smokey’s favorite pastimes include curling up in his fleece bed by the window to watch the world go by, and spending time with his favorite people (pretty much anyone who will give him some love and attention).”

Smokey Joe is an only-child of a cat, and will appreciate a permanent home where he can be the star and get all the love and attention.

Smokey Joe, like all ARCF cats for adoption, has been neutered, microchipped, is up to date on vaccines, and has tested negative for FeLV and FIV.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Smokey Joe, a Portland Domestic Shorthair cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in Portland, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair cat from a breeder in Portland.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Portland already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Portland breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Portland paves the way for another one to be saved.
