My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Truffles is a wonderful one year old little 4-lbs red and tan female Chihuahua who needs a very special home. Truffles has started off her life in hardship. Even though she is just a year old, she had already sustained an injury to her eye, which had damaged the iris of her left eye. As this was not given any veterinary treatment it has left her blind in that eye. When we rescued her from out of the shelter system we took her straight to our Vet for a complete physical. Blood was drawn, of which the results showed her CK (Creatinine phosphokinase / creatinine kinase) levels were through the roof at 800, when 200 should have been the highest level. The CPK / CK are different names for the same muscle enzyme that increases muscle damage. Our Veterinarian feels that this is just a temporary muscle fatigue issue. Her blood also showed anemia and that she was fighting an infection, so this elevated level may be the result of those two issues. Due to her unusual body shape and walk, we also took x-rays which shows a congenital curvature of the spine and bowing of the femurs in her back legs. Her rib cage is also expanded but the internal organs all looked good, but showed poor Truffles was also severely constipate. Through all fo this she has been wonderful and loving, even though she must have felt awful. She is taking her antibiotics, stool softner and doggie vitamins well and is now eating like a horse. A blood panel will be drawn again once her antibiotics are finished to see if we have combated the infection and have returned the CK levels back to normal. Once she has the approval from the Doctor she will get spayed and will be ready to go in to a foster, or more preferably a forever home.
