My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Buddy is a beautiful boy that looks like a golden retriever/lab mix, and his double dewclaws give us a clue to some likely great pyrenees heritage. He is a big boy at 79 pounds and estimated to be about 2 years old. He is extremely loving, affectionate and playful. He wants nothing more than to be pet and loved. Once you do, he just rolls over for more! Buddy is very smart and a fast learner -- he knows some basic commands such as sit and down. In his current foster home he is learning the command stay and is working on how to get along with cats, a rabbit and a tortoise! He already gets along with the resident dogs. And kisses, well, all you have to do is ask him for a kiss and he is eager to please. He enjoys being walked and is as light as a feather on a leash. He even sits (or may lean against you) when you stop walking and just looks up at you with his big brown eyes – you can’t help but just melt as he is simply irresistible. He enjoys car rides with his foster family and their two dogs. Buddy also enjoys playing with other dogs and cozying up in his bed to sleep at night. He is housebroken, he doesn’t chew and he is grateful he has a warm place to stay until his forever home comes along.

It wasn’t all good for Buddy. He almost didn’t make it. He was about to be euthanized in a county pound. But once Adopt-A-Pet heard about that, we made sure this wonderful dog got a second chance. Then, we discovered his hip was fractured as a puppy and never fixed. This meant his bones were grinding on each other, causing extreme pain. We knew something was wrong when we saw that he wasn't weight bearing on his back leg. At the animal hospital, the x-rays showed how bad it really was. Now, Buddy has undergone the surgery and is going through the rehabilitation to fix this. His forever home will need to ensure he maintains his weight because if becomes overweight, it will add undue pressure to his hip. Since he has had the surgery, he is recovering nicely and the doctors say he should be as good as new! Despite his pain, Buddy only showed us the love he was looking for, the love that he never had.

If Buddy could tell you a little about himself, he would probably say…… I just want to be loved. I will give you my unconditional love if you will do the same. It would be great if I could have a yard to play in, and a warm bed to sleep in at night. I might even climb into bed with you if you let me. I love to sit next to my foster parents, be pet and embrace their attention. I also like to sit by the doors and windows to look outside. If someone comes to the door, I will bark to let you know - you can count on that. If you do have cats, you'll need to be patient with me. If they run fast I want to chase them. But if you work with me, we can get through this. If you don’t have the patience, I may not be right for you as it does take a little time, but I was able to do well with the cats in my foster home – and they had a lot of them!

I had my first bath with my foster family at a groomer and I was a really good boy. It really made me feel good, too, so I would be ok if you wanted to do that. Or, you can just brush me 'cause I like that too! You don’t have to raise your voice, I listen pretty well and quickly. In my past I think I was grabbed by my collar a lot and it still scares me a little. So the best way for us to get along is for you to just get down to my level and ask me to come to you – I will, no need for grabbing. I really am a good boy. I am sure we would bond really quickly. I am loving, loyal and would make you a great companion. For my whole life, I did not have my forever home - that is all I am looking for - a forever home, a forever family, a happily forever after.

How could you say no to that! Well, if you are looking for a best friend or an awesome companion you would be extremely lucky to adopt Buddy into your life and into your, and his, forever home.

Buddy's adoption fee of $275 includes: vet exam, flea preventative, heartworm test, DHPP (distemper-parvo combo) vaccination, rabies vaccination, bordetella vaccination, deworming, microchip, neutering, and all follow-up visits for his surgery.
