Rescue Group Info...
'New Leash on Life!' Animal Rescue is a all volunteer "no kill", soon to be 501(c)(3), non-profit private rescue organization based in Poteet, Texas. At 'New Leash on Life!', we are dedicated to the American Eskimo Dog...often more frequently called "Eskies" or “Spitz”. American Eskimo dogs are lovingly nicknamed “Eskies” for short by their owners. According to AKC regulations, Eskies will only have white or cream/bisque colored coats and come in three sizes….the standard (15"-19" - at shoulder), the miniature (12"-15"), and the toy (9"-12"). The name "Spitz” is only a description of a "group of breeds with similar characteristics", NOT the actual the breed of dog. Some of the other breeds included in the Spitz group are the German Wolfspitz, Zwergspitz, or Dwarf Spitz, Keeshonden Finnish Spitz, and Pomeranians. All of these can be white, black, brown, wolfgray and orange or golden in color.
Although, we specialize in the breed American Eskimo dogs, we have had an influx of mix-breed dogs that have needed help so we have answered to that need! We have many abandoned mix-breed dogs in our rescue and other rescues that are in need of homes. All of our rescues are basic obedience trained and treated as family members until we can find them the perfect "forever" home like yours! If you can't find the perfect dog here...email us and we will try to help you find your special little "furry friend"...even if it is in another rescue!
Since we are a private rescue, we are not open to the general public. Many of our animals are in foster homes in various areas. All prospective Adoptive Parents will be welcome to come and visit a "Furry Friend" after an application and home visit are completed and they have been approved. We will contact you to schedule an appointment and give you directions to the location of the dog you are interested in. If you are interested in any of our rescued dogs, or would like to be placed on our waiting list for a particular breed, please email NewLeashonLife@att.net for a representative to send you our ADOPTION APPLICATION to complete.
As we are sure you will understand, all animals in rescue have been through some type of turmoil, such as abuse, neglect, or simply that the previous owner couldn't take care of them any longer. Also, many animals end up in shelters because of over-breeding. Therefore, it is up to the rescuers to make sure we find the best "forever" homes for each animal in our care. Sometimes, we end up with several people interested in the same dog. Needless to say, we can't make everyone happy but do the best we can for the dogs in our care. Please keep this in mind when applying for adoption.
We ask all prospective adopters to first complete our ADOPTION APPLICATION. (please e-mail NewLeashonLife@att.net for an application) Once we receive the application from you, we will begin working on getting a home visit scheduled. This will be done as soon as possible; however, sometimes it does take a while to find a volunteer in certain areas so please be patient. After the home visit is completed, we will contact you to set up a date and time to come meet our "Furry Friends". REMEMBER, you may not be the only applicant interested in a particular dog. All of our "Furry Friends" are spayed/neutered, heartworm tested, up to date with shots, and evaluated before they are placed. We do ask for adoption donations when we place a rescued dog. The adoption donations are to cover these expenses and to assist with the costs of new dogs as they arrive to insure that they get the care they deserve. Without these donations it would not be possible to continue to save other animals.
