Pepper's Story...
Copper and Pepper are affectionate, playful, beautiful brothers looking for a new home. Both of them are very loving – Pepper will sit in your lap for hours and Copper will snuggle next to you while nudging your hand for pets.

Copper was named for his beautiful bright orange color, and you can rub him like a lucky penny – he especially likes to have his neck and cheeks scratched. Pepper has sleek shiny black fur, bits of white on his back toes and his belly, and big green eyes. He likes head scratches too, and long strokes on his back and sides.

Both these guys love cat toys like laser pointers, and they also turn household objects into toys. Pepper, particularly, is a good choice for a forever family who appreciates cats’ skills but not one with fragile knick-knacks, because he sits on a desk or shelf tapping things with his paw until they roll onto the floor.

Copper and Pepper both like high places. They lounge on top of the refrigerator, or climb the side of a tall bookcase as if it were a ladder and then perch on the top shelf watching everyone else. Pepper also follows his people around the house, trying to make himself useful. They haven’t been able to convince him that leaping onto the bed doesn’t help straighten the sheets. Maybe he just likes making people laugh.

Copper and Pepper were born in early spring 2009. Their mom was once someone’s pet but ended up living outside with her kittens until someone contacted 4Paws to rescue them. Their mom and sister have been adopted but for some reason people have passed by these two sweeties. Copper doesn’t like the noise and bustle of adoption fairs, so he doesn’t show well there, and Pepper is probably experiencing the subtle bias against black cats that leads people to focus on colorful cats. Both have been neutered, tested negative for FIV/FeLV, and are up to date on vaccinations.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Pepper, a Merrifield Domestic Shorthair cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in Merrifield, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair cat from a breeder in Merrifield.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Merrifield already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Merrifield breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Merrifield paves the way for another one to be saved.
