My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

05/16/10: A Family Does "The Right Thing"

Margot is a six month old spayed female boxer who is absolutely adorable. She was born on 11-11-09. Her family surrendered her because she was too much to care for with a toddler in the home. They felt it was best to place her through NBR because they knew we would find her a new family that could devote more time to her needs.

We applaud this family for recognizing, early on, that their decision to purchase a young puppy was a mistake; caring for a young child and a puppy was more work than they realized. They loved and cared for Margot but ultimately they had Margot’s best interest in mind.

Margot was starting to exhibit some typical behaviors seen in young boxers when they are NOT receiving what they need (i.e. difficulty housebreaking, jumping the fence and running away, digging in the yard etc.). Often times, people faced with this same scenario do the wrong thing and separate the dog from the family (keep outside, put in a crate or basement etc); as the dog gets older, and their inappropriate behaviors worsen, these people finally give up entirely on the dog instead of doing what was right in the beginning. Then the dog may be hastily given away, placed in Rescue or a Shelter, taken to be killed, or dropped off to fend for themselves. These now older dogs are often difficult to place and are often killed. Luckily Margot will not suffer this fate.Å@

First Update From Margot’s Foster Home:

“Margot is adorable and she plays very nicely. She does her 'kidney bean' dance when ever she is happy - which is a lot. She loves interacting with her boxer foster siblings and they have fun play barking at each other. She keeps my 4 year old boxer hopping!
She really does have lots of energy; a real character. At this moment, she is sitting on the recliner, right behind me, with her head on my shoulder.

Margot is great with new people and is already almost house broken. Placing a dog in the right environment makes such a difference. She needs some direction walking on a lead but that will come with time and patience. She had started to jump - which I discourage - but she is getting better. She is fine eating in the same room with the other dogs - and has shown zero aggression.

Margot loves to snuggle. She sleeps in my bed at night and is very content. She already has a favorite toy; a red bone. As hard as she plays she likes to take frequent naps during the day. She is too active for any child under 4 - she will play too rough with them. She is a little on the thin side - her ribs show - so I am working on plumping her up a bit. Not sure how she will react with cats.

Margot wanted to say a few words,

‘Hello - My name is Margot. I am a six month old white boxer ( I am not deaf). My foster mom tells me I am very beautiful. I have a lot of energy. I love to run and jump, and play with my foster boxer sister and brother. I have already started to learn some new things. My foster dad tells me I am very smart.’

Margot is a doll. I will keep you posted on her adjustment. Thanks for allowing us to foster Margot.”
