Sally's Story...

We have suffered MAJOR damage from hurricane GUSTAV.
PLEASE HELP US.

Sally is a hound shepherd mix girl who is affectionate and calm. We believe she was born in 2003. She has spent much of her life in our shelter, but she has never lost her gentle good natured personality. She would need a little extra help in learning house manners, but she is an intelligent girl who would love to show that she could be someone's best friend. Sally gets along well with other dogs.

Unless otherwise indicated in the specific information for this pet, he/she is already fixed, up to date on vaccinations and on heartworm prevention.

About Our Shelter...
Raven Woods Animal Sanctuary is a privately run 501(c)3 organization located in Roseland, Louisiana and dedicated to providing loving care to abandoned, stray, and abused animals. We receive no state or federal funding.
We are strictly NO-KILL except in situations where an animal is suffering from a terminal illness resulting in untreatable pain. While we do our best to find each pet a family of their own, those not chosen for adoption have a permanent home with us.

Many of the pets we take in are ill or injured. Nearly all of the adult dogs have heartworms. Some will require special care for the rest of their lives. We do not pick and choose who we will take on the basis of their health or adoptability. Every life is sacred and deserving of our love and the very best care we can give.

During 2007, we saw many exciting things happen at our shelter. All of our female dogs are now spayed unless they have health problems that prevent this. At this point we are not able to neuter each male, but they are neutered prior to adoption. Every dog is on heartworm preventative, and 44 dogs have been treated for heartworms. We are treating our other heartworm positive dogs as fast as funds allow, and hope to have each dog treated before we lose any more to this terrible but easily preventable disease. All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and puppies receive vaccinations every 2-3 weeks until they are 4 months old. With our aggressive vaccination program, we have a very low incidence of infectious illnesses like parvo. Our dogs are housed in outside kennels with chainlink sides and concrete floors, with tarps over the kennels to provide protection from sun and rain. We were inspected by the Humane Society of Louisiana in October 2007 and no violations of code were found.

We are very happy that nearly 100 of our pets have found homes in the past year. But due to the overwhelming number of stray and abandoned animals in our area each one that was adopted was quickly replaced by another needing a home.
Our goal is never to turn away an animal with no other place to go, or let one die due to a treatable illness, and to find loving homes for as many of our dogs as possible.

Come Meet Our Pets...
We are an all volunteer organization and live onsite. We do not have specific hours of operation but if potential adopters contact us we can set up appointments most any time or day of the week.
Our Adoption Process...
We require an adoption contract to be signed where the adopter agrees to keep heartworm preventative and vaccinations current, provide regular vet care, and treat the adopted pet as a family member. We require references including their veterinarian, and reserve the right to require an onsite home visit. We stipulate that should the adoption not work out, the pet will returned to us. Our adoption fee is normally $150 and includes all appropriate vaccinations, spay/neuter, and treatment for heartworms if necessary.
We Serve the Following Cities, Towns, and/or Counties...
We adopt both locally (South LA and MS) and nationally through transports.
