UPDATED BIO 07/02/2010: Mattie here! I am not going to be PTS cause UYR saved me just in the nick of time! I have only been in my foster home for 11 days but my FM says she can tell all kinds of things about me because she has already fostered 13 others just like me. She says I am the most timid dog of all that have come to her. I was so afraid to walk outside when she would bring me out for a walk my first few days here. I would just sit until she gave up and would take me back inside. I didn't know what toys were and after 3 days I did chew on a bully stick. Now I am actually playing with toys and trying to play with the other dogs in the home. At first, they tried to play with me. I wanted to play back. I just didn't know how. It was scary!!!!!!!! I thought them barking at me was a bad thing. Turns out they wanted to play.
I follow FM wherever she goes, and when she picked me up the first few days (which I still love) I just hung on for dear life with my paws around her neck so she wouldn't put me down. I have made great strides in the past few days and am more and more confident and time goes on. I really need my Foster mommy right now. I always lay right next to her and sometimes sleep with my body around her neck so she won’t leave me. I didn’t eat for 3 days cause I didn’t know what that stuff was. She thinks I just lived on scraps that may have been thrown to me. The Doctor said I wasn’t more than 10 to 12 months. Isn't that wonderful? That will make me even more adoptable, right?? Foster mommy says so and that I will find a home sooner, the younger I am! I have demodex, a non contagious mange and will get better in a couple of months. I am going to be neutered in about 2 weeks after all my shots are finished.
Even though my FM is very good to me and my little dog roommates are nice to me, I just can’t shake the feeling that something bad is going to happen to me. FM hugs and kisses me and that makes me feel better. She says someone made a big mistake to mistreat me because I am so sweet and didn’t deserve it. I would love to go to a home where I would be loved and be allowed to show my love back and to have lots of time to get over all my fears. Foster mom says by the progress I have made so far, I should be ready to be adopted in 2-3 months.
FM says TIME heals all wounds …………….and I believe her.
INITIAL BIO 06/21/2010: My name is Mattie. I really need your help. See, I'm just a little boy. I am only 1.5 years old and weigh only 6 lbs. I was rescued today because somebody at the shelter saw me and called my Foster Mom. I was listed as a "terrier" but that's only because I have something called "Demodectic Mange... or just Demodex." Demodex happens when normal microscopic mites that live on every dog get a little out of hand. It happens when dogs don't have a proper immune system. That can happen because of poor living conditions, poor nutrition, or for reasons we just don't know. By now, Foster Mommy said that anyone who knows UYR and has seen the miracles that happen with Mange treatments knows that I am going to be beeeeautiful again real soon!
Well, FM is still learning about me but she says I'm all puppy and love to play. I'm on a whole heap of medicine right now, but I am gonna be just fine. I am being fostered in Boynton Beach.
