Shane's Story...
Hello, my name is Shane!

Hi, my name is Shane. The wonderful people at GHGSDR found me at a Harris County shelter and decided to offer me a new life. I am so very grateful! My past was full of uncertainty and I did what I had to in order to survive. My diet was a bit raunchy and inadequate for a big boy like me, so I am somewhat malnourished and my immune system still a bit weak. I had an assortment of annoying worms in my belly but am feeling much better since I've been dewormed.

Now that I'm in a foster home with foster parents and a GSD sister that provide me with unconditional love, some needed boundaries and lots of food and water, my true nature is shining through. My foster mom calls me a “hunk of love.” I have to admit that I am quite a hunk…strong, good looking and very charming. When my foster mom came to get me at the Richmond Animal Hospital , I greeted her with a hand shake. Quite the debonair gentlemen, don't you think? Just wait until I get a few more weeks of good, wholesome food and complete my heartworm regimen. Move over RinTinTin…there’s a new Wonder Dog in town!

So let me see, what else can I tell you about my wonderful self? I love to go for car rides and short walks. I get along with my sister, though she can be quite bossy. She is teaching me lots of things…to sit before being fed, play with toys, chase small critters out of our yard and to leave mom and dad alone when they are eating. She tried to teach me to fear rain storms and storm drains, but I don't think these behaviors are fitting of my plucky personality! My foster mom thinks I'm pretty well housetrained and we will keep working on this. I am learning good manners and am a very quick learner! Finally, I am really a people lover and I just can't get enough of my foster parents. Right now I follow my foster mom everywhere she goes…. and I mean everywhere. As I get more comfortable with this incredible new life I am sure I will learn to give her more space and privacy.

Well, that about sums it up! I still have to undergo heartworm treatment, but once that is done, I will be looking for my forever home. If you are looking for a happy, devoted, hunk of love, then I am your man.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Shane, a Houston German Shepherd Dog dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a German Shepherd Dog for sale in Houston, or seeking a German Shepherd Dog dog from a breeder in Houston.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Houston already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Houston breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even German Shepherd Dog breeders who help with German Shepherd Dog rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Houston paves the way for another one to be saved.
