My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Quade
Breed: Australian Terrier
Age: approx. 8yrs
Level of blindness: nearly completely blind. may see shadows, but does bump into things in his path and will fall down stairs (can go up stairs)
Cause of eye issues: diabetes
Health issues: he is an insulin dependent diabetic
Weight: 15 pounds
Good with dogs: has enjoyed each dog he has met so far, including a senior Great Dane and an energetic puppy
Good with cats: has not met a cat yet while with us, though does live with a foster bird that he ignores
Good with children: he loves people, and would likely be good with respectful older children.
Currently being fostered in: Michigan

Information:
He was discovered as a stray and taken to the local animal shelter. He is diabetic and was found very underweight and very thirsty. When BDRA rescued him, he was drinking too much water and unable to hold onto calories, so was very hungry. He has since been diagnosed with diabetes is being treated with insulin and is able to retain calories and looks much better! He is a happy little boy, that comes when you call him. His tail is always wagging. You can get him riled up in play and he will bark joyfully and then stop when you ask. He rides like a dream in the car and loves to go to a dog food store where he can sit in the cart and pick his treats! He easily accepts strangers reaching into the cart to pet him. He has the cutest squeezable little face, he likes to rub his face on your hand or leg and rest it there...adorable! He enjoys baths, and even has fallen asleep while being massaged with shampoo! He appreciates the blow dryer and likes how you rub his pretty red fur with your hand while you blow him dry. He is low energy, and will follow you around a bit, but then settles easily into his bed. He does like to lay with his foster dog sister at night, and will push into her bed to share, but is also calm by himself as the only dog. He would sleep in bed with you or lay on your lap while you watch TV, if you let him. He is easily carried, and does not startle when you go to pick him up. He does need help with housebreaking, though he will crate for a treat. He has learned how to sit for his treats. He gets insulin twice a day and does great! He does not mind getting his shots at all.
Quade walks like a gentleman on the leash.
