ADOPTED 08-13-2010

At six months old and fast growing, this 50 pound paper-proof Chesapeake Bay Retriever is full of love, hope and promise that he mature into the fine dog that makes this breed such a cherished one! Often mistaken for a Golden Retriever or a Labrador Retriever, Chesapeake Bay Retrievers (CBRs) are a breed uniquely their own, and as such must be cherished for those reasons. CBRs or "Chessie's" are intensely loyal, protective of their human brood, entirely sensitive, serious and committed dogs which make them superb human companions! The breed is a result of crosses with Newfoundlands, hounds, setters, water spaniels and other dogs -- all chosen to make them the best of the DUCKING DOGS around -- and that innate trait still exists in most Chessies today! JEB is no exception! He is a young male that is exuberant and loving with his classic curly water-repelling coat on his back and torso with a beautiful sedge-colored masked face that endears him to all immediately.

Jeb is being lovingly fostered by a seasoned trainer and rescuer who is well-versed with this breed. Jeb is currently on the Gulf Coast of Alabama, and the adoption fee includes transport to the Northeast already. This young pup was rescued from a back-yard breeder, and is thriving in the care of our devoted trainer who spends countless hours working with him each week, and daily so that he can have the mental and physical stimulation required to help him mature into the fine dog he was always meant to be. Thus far, Jeb has not met a person, dog or other animal he doesn't like, and all he can do is keep his eyes on his favorite person at all times: his trainer. It's amazing to see such a connection through the simple glance between human and dog -- but it's undeniable. And it's for this express reason that Chessie's, especially JEB, must always be trained consistently and fairly as they are so sensitive and can often be redirected and guided with a low, sharp, word, taking VERY SERIOUSLY, the tone and intention of their leader whom they are soooo focused on pleasing. That is, after all, a CBR's over-arching goal: to PLEASE THEIR OWNER. The bond that is possible between a Chessie and its human can be so wonderful and powerful and it's why a dog like JEB would need to be a TOTAL MEMBER of one's family, and he will give of himself one-hundred fold.

JEB doesn't really know he's 50 pounds of puppy because he loves to crawl into his trainer's lap after being worked for 30 minutes and just gaze up and look into his eyes as they sit by the lake together as if to be seeking his approval. A small stroke on JEB's head, and he feels satisfied that he's "done well." Be forewarned, JEB is a master retriever -- but EVERY SINGLE TENNIS BALL COMES BACK TOTALLY DEFLATED. And yet, it comes back -- just flat! There's nothing Jeb loves more than to swim, swim and swim some more. It's his favorite form of exercise, for sure -- so his potential new family would want to have access to a lake or swimming hole that would satiate this beautiful dog's favorite past-time. And then, you'd have to be willing to share your complete home and heart with this dog because he wants that if not more than swimming -- YOU! JEB is the breed standard in every regard: he's active, intelligent, and thrives when given a job and responsibilities. His willingness to please is unparalleled and his big heart offers endless love and devotion. JEB plays so well with all the other dogs of all sizes, shapes and genders.

Jeb's trainer often refers to him as a "pogo stick" noting that "Jeb hops up and down on his back legs with such eagerness for the next ball to be tossed into the pond," remarking that he is just "A big happy camper, love-sponge" who is a VERY HEALTHY, WELL-ADJUSTED, ALTERED, COMPLETELY VETTED, HOUSE-TRAINED dog that is ready to jump straight into the right family's hearts and take roost there. There's just NOTHING better that Jeb likes than to be with people. So, if it's laid back companionship and calm affection that you are seeking, JEB might be the dog for you. He has that remarkable eye contact and is so attuned to all the feelings and emotions that the his favorite people are experiencing that it's almost eerie, but again, that's true to the breed's disposition and sensitive nature.

Jeb will need an active family to meet his exercise requirements and his potential adopters will have to be willing to commit to consistent training and continued nurture with this puppy as he grows and matures into an adult dog. The good news is because of his intelligence, he's just so easy to train and is eager than most to please making him have a longer than usual attention span that allows for a fun time with obedience -- especially if he's praised often and well for a good job!

JEB has a sound temperament and is going to make a superb family companion for a responsible and affectionate adopter. Fortunately, JEB's rescuer is a skilled trainer with over 40 years experience working with dogs. Not only has his temperament and personality been evaluated thoroughly, but he will be adopted highly trained. The dog you meet will be the one you are told about as our rescue believes ONLY in full disclosure on every level before placing dogs and then, of course, we offer continued advisory support afterwards on all our rescued charges. Our adopters become part of the rescue team, and we work together to help acclimate the dogs into their new lives. RESCUE TAKES A VILLAGE -- and we are honored to work with you to welcome your next four-legged family member into your hearts and home, grateful for people who are so willing to make a difference to these dogs who need us most.

About Our Rescue

These dogs deserve all of our attention, and in Rescue Dog Village, we are committed to our adopters and our dogs equally. We offer full disclosure and hope to make the best matches possible. Please know our adoption fees never cover our expenses. We rely on the generosity of our adopters and supporters to help us help the dogs.

Our rescue is ONLY in the business of offering FULL DISCLOSURE to adopters, and expects and hopes to engage your questions and concerns fully. We owe it to the dogs we rescue and all the wonderful families/adopters who might consider welcoming our charges into their hearts and home. Our dogs are waiting for that ideal forever home where they will be cherished as deserving family members. It’s sad these second chances are even necessary for these dogs, but we are committed to them and will devote the time and energy to their rehoming, and not just MOVE them to save more dogs. We diligently and responsibly seek good matches as we don’t want to re-home the dog again. These animals have already endured more than they should have, and through no fault of their own. It behooves us to be honest and forthright, and we appreciate the same in return from applicants. It’s that winning combination of reciprocal trust and respect that allows for successful placements to be made. Happy adopters translate to happy dogs, and that’s our goal!

Our rescue volunteers will be more than honored to be in touch with you directly and promptly, after receiving your application and conducting a mandatory a veterinarian check. If you have never owned a dog before, please submit your application regardless, and we will be in touch with you as soon as possible. TAKE NOTE YOU SHOULD CHECK YOUR SPAM AS SOME RESPONSES FROM US WIND UP THERE WE’VE DISCOVERED. Also, take care to contact your veterinarian to let them know a member of rescue will be inquiring about your pet history!

Thank you for respecting that we all donate our time to saving these animals, and understand we value your philanthropic and compassionate desire to help be part of the rescue team. That said, you’ll understand why we are committed to the well-being of our charges and consider this veterinarian check mandatory. If you are a first-time dog owner, we will work with you every step of the way! ADVOCACY AND EDUCATION ARE AS MUCH A PART OF RESPONSIBLE RESCUE AS ADOPTION! And it takes a RESCUE VILLAGE to help the most dogs possible in a thorough manner to ensure success on all fronts, and then some! It is an awful feeling to fail a dog, and we can’t continue rescue if we don’t do everything we can to ensure good matches for the dogs and tender families who might adopt them. THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING.

Although we are an extremely small rescue group, we understand and respect your family’s eagerness to be in touch and learn as much as you can about the dogs you are considering adopting. Our very experienced and devoted trainer will be happy to share all aspects of OUR RESCUE DOGS to determine compatibility once you’ve submitted your application, and another of our volunteers will explain the whole process of our rescue and answer any questions you might have as well.

If you have the time and love to offer this extremely bright dog who can make you laugh for hours at his antics, PLEASE APPLY TO BE CONSIDERED FOR A RESCUE DOG VILLAGE DOG AND GIVE ONE A HOME. Our dogs deserve all that a committed family can offer. Make no mistake about it, this is one spectacular dog!

Please contact RescueDogVillage@yahoo.com and we will be happy to return your correspondence, but please submit the application now so we can have that information as a starting base for our dialogue.

THANK YOU FOR CONSIDERING RESCUE AS A MEANS OF WELCOMING YOUR NEXT FOUR-LEGGED FRIEND INTO YOUR LIFE!

ALL interested adopters MUST complete an application; agree to a vet reference check, phone interview and home visit. ALL family members MUST be in attendance for home visits - no exceptions. This helps us get to know everyone in the family so that we can help find the right dog for you.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Jeb AD 08-13-10, a Hartford Chesapeake Bay Retriever puppy was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Chesapeake Bay Retriever for sale in Hartford, or seeking a Chesapeake Bay Retriever puppy from a breeder in Hartford.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Hartford already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Hartford breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Chesapeake Bay Retriever breeders who help with Chesapeake Bay Retriever rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Hartford paves the way for another one to be saved.
