Maya was rescued from the streets of Los Angeles when she was only a year old. She came to us with bloody wounds all over her body; we suspect she may have been attacked by other animals while living on the streets. She underwent many months of care and treatment at The Fuzzy Pet Foundation.
Maya is now five years old, and she has been in our care for all this time because (a) she needs to be the only cat inside the house (dogs are OK), and (b) she has a mild case of stomatitis (inflammation of the oral cavity).
Maya is healthy, but prospective adopters understandably shy away from adopting an animal with any pre-existing medical condition(s). Her stomatitis is not severe, but a couple times a year, Maya requires antibiotics when her gums turn red and inflamed. She also needs a dental cleaning under anesthesia every 1-2 years like most other cats. She can eat, play, and use the bathroom without any problems.
Maya wants nothing more than to be adopted by a nurturing, responsible family. She is very affectionate and sociable. She doesn't like to be around other cats and will hiss and hide at the sight of another cat. But she LOVES all people and will also play with other small dogs! She follows around her favorite people inside the house. She likes to meow and 'talk'! Maya lives for belly rubs, daily brushing sessions, and will sleep right under the bed covers with you every night! Maya is a purr machine who will come running to greet you when you come back home. Such a loyal kitty!
