Cooper's Story...
Attention Special People!!! This kitty is looking for you...

COOPER is a playful, energetic 18-month-old kitty who is looking for someone special to love and entertain! This guy is one of the most handsome tabbies we've ever rescued. His markings are incredibly striking, and his personality matches. He's very easy-going, and will even roll over to let your rub his belly.

Cooper had a rough start in life... On a 100° day in August '09, he and his siblings (only 3 weeks old) were found abandoned in a bucket in the hot afternoon sun. They were in pretty bad shape – but luckily found in time and nursed back to health by our volunteers. Their next challenge was testing positive for FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus), most likely exposed by their mother. You'd never know they carry the virus because they are beautiful, healthy and active.

FIV is sometimes misunderstood. The virus can lay dormant for many years; cats that test positive often have a normal life-span. FIV can't be passed to dogs or people. It is transmitted cat-to-cat only through a bite-wound. For an enlightened view on FIV, please go to:

Are you that special person who will take Cooper into your heart and home? If so, please send an email with your name, phone number, and a little about yourself, other pets, etc.

Cooper has a sister, Nadia (also FIV+), who needs a loving home. They can be adopted separately or as a pair.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Cooper, a Austin Domestic Shorthair cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in Austin, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair cat from a breeder in Austin.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Austin already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Austin breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Austin paves the way for another one to be saved.
