My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Destiny is a little lady with a whole lot of spirit going on! Her story and character are sure to capture your heart.

She was named appropriately since the odds in this world were stacked against the two week old pup who was carelessly dropped off on a late October day in a cardboard box on a cold front porch. She was probably a reject from a back yard breeder. Lucky for little Destiny a rescue volunteer lived in the area and was willing to help. This little ball of fluff was nurtured, loved and in the best home possible to help her. She was in Siberian country! She was bottle fed, fussed over and made to feel safe. Destiny was everything a little puppy should be, or so she thought. She romped. She played. She chewed. She even ran with the big dogs and was loving every moment of it. She was so full of energy that she wore her older Siberian playmates out as they sought the refuge of another room to find relief from Destiny’s enthusiasm and antics. Through it all, her foster mom smiled inside...This little bit was just lucky to be alive.

Why would someone discard a lovable little puppy like this? Tragically, this little girl had no motor functions in her own back legs or tail. She would navigate around from early on by using her front two paws while padding as fast as she could to keep up, dragging the rest of her body behind. Many folks suggested that she should be put down and out of her misery, but Destiny never seemed miserable. In fact, it would be tough to find an equal to this little one who could share the same zest for life that Destiny portrays. Life dealt her two bum legs, but no one ever told her she shouldn’t or couldn’t. She just did. With remarkable courage and an equally remarkable foster mom who had faith in her little pup, this little girl is moving full speed ahead and loving every minute of it.

This extraordinary youngster was determined from day one, to take each moment as it came and overcome the obstacles as they were presented. She is receiving a lot of attention, love and much needed therapy by her foster family, to strengthen the muscles in those back legs. They work tirelessly with and for her to bring her just a little closer to “normal” every day. Thanks in part to a balanced diet and strengthening supplements; Destiny is enjoying the life of a Happy little Husky. It is hard to explain the simple celebration of joy when a not so simple task, like a tail wag was accomplished. That happy wag was a breakthrough in Destiny’s motor development! With feeling and strength developing in her back legs and tail, this spunky little lass has even mastered the art of “potty training” because no one ever gave up on her! She is able to signal that she has to go out and can stand on her own four feet to relieve herself …making doggie diapers a thing of the past…She’s a big girl now!

Just in recent weeks, Destiny has taken another major step that is helping her to strengthen and build muscles in her back legs too. She has found herself a set of wheels! Now there is no stopping her! With the help of braced support and motion wheels, Destiny can and does, really run, using all for legs! “Watch your toes because there she goes!” She is gaining balance and strength and, is also spending more quality time up on all fours even without the support of the cart…She is not only making progress, she is turning people’s hearts and heads and making them smile. She has a genuine good nature and happiness is infectious wherever Destiny goes. She turned the once little puppy who couldn’t into the little pup who should, would and could!!!

While improvement has been significant in her young life so far, Destiny is a special needs girl. She will need someone who understands that therapy is vital and is the very fuel that keeps her going and growing strong. Her improvement has truly been a miracle in the making, but we can’t say for sure that she will ever lead a strong and healthy four on the floor type life when it comes to motor skills…We are hoping! Her fortitude is there and she gives each day 110 %, but she is still a puppy with a long life ahead of her. With a willing and supportive family, Destiny can thrive, survive and be alive just like any other Siberian Husky. She might just need the support of a cart like she is using now. A commitment to this little girl is for life. She loves with all of her heart and her enthusiasm is unmatched. She needs a special heart to match her own…one who is willing to love her in spite of her handicap (which only we see, not Destiny) and help her to live a long and productive life in any event.

Love grows where this Husky goes and her courage in the face of adversity and the fortitude she developed as a result of the love of a foster mom that wouldn’t quit or give up on her either, makes Destiny a true rescue success in every sense of the word. This is a story of courage and success, not only on the part of this precious little pup, but also in large part because of the strength that grew through her foster mom too. Pure and simple, her mom told her to shoot for the stars and Destiny loves with all her heart and is not stopping until she gets there.
