Gretchen's Story...
These little darlings are as precious as puppies can be. Mom is a Shih-Tzu, but Dad is unknown. It seems he bought a one-way ticket out of town, and left no forwarding address. These dogs will do well in families with older children, provided the children are polite and very careful with them. They can be snappish, and are not recommended for families with young children, or folks planning a family in the future. If you love Shihs, and are home most of the day, one of these angels may be the perfect companion for you!

The first step in applying for one of our pets is to fill out an application. This in no way obligates you to adopt. It helps our foster parents learn more about you, which helps them determine if the pet would be a good fit for your situation. Please log on to our website at www.bbcra.org then click on the button on the left-hand side that says Apply to Adopt.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Gretchen, a Pittsboro/Durham Shih Tzu puppy was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Shih Tzu for sale in Pittsboro/Durham, or seeking a Shih Tzu puppy from a breeder in Pittsboro/Durham.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Pittsboro/Durham already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Pittsboro/Durham breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Shih Tzu breeders who help with Shih Tzu rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Pittsboro/Durham paves the way for another one to be saved.
