My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Koda and I’m 4 1/2. My foster mom says that I am a beautiful fawn boy. I weight about 135 lbs, but need to gain some more muscle. I love my new foster home. I have lots of chew toys, dog beds, foster playmates, and lots of love here. I have some problems with my skin that I developed in my previous home. They lost their house, so... Here I am!!! We are working on clearing up my skin and with medication, lots of baths, and some special food... I think I';m gonna look great when I am all healed up!! I still feel weak in my back legs sometimes because I didn't get out of the crate/kennel much. I lost a lot of muscle. The vet thinks I will get better with time, TLC and exercise. So, I play some, walk some and rest some... what a life .. I get to that over and over and over again!! Yay!! a I am housetrained and a good boy. I will go in the crate and I will settle eventually, but I REALLY feel better just hanging out. I will wait for you in the living room/bedroom/basement... anywhere. I don't chew on anything besides my chew toys. I sleep in the bedroom with my foster mom and all my foster brothers and sisters and we don't have any issues. As much as I love it here with my foster family. I would love to have a family of my very own. My foster mom says that I will need to be in a home with another dog to keep me company and in a place where I don't have to be crated. My best friend is a 9 month old German Shepherd male! I saw some kittens at the vets office but I really didn’t bother looking at them much. Wont you adopt me??

Update 8/6/10 - Koda is doing well in his foster home. He plays well with his foster brothers and sisters and likes to play and snuggle with his foster mom and dad. His coat is soft and shiny now and most of the sores and hairless patches are gone. He has completed his first round of antibiotics and there are no more infected bloody spots on his skin. We started with 2 Pharmoseb baths a week and he is now down to 1 a week and he looking good!

Koda has been playing off and on with our shepherd pup and the other Dane in our home. He appears to be developing some leg muscles in both of his legs. He has also benefited from some short leash walks.

Koda recently developed a limp and it appeared to be very painful for Koda to walk. We had him x-rayed and it seems that Koda has severe hip dysplasia and arthritis in both hips - thought the right is worse than the left. He is currently on Rimadyl, Gabapentin, Chondroitin, and Glucosamine. He is starting to feel much better and is even starting to play with a few toys from the toy box. We are currently researching different therapies that might be able to help him move better and be able to play and enjoy his days pain free. We are looking into Aquaden injections, acupuncture, Liquid Glucosamine and maybe even Gold Bead Implants to help him move better and reduce his pain.

Koda met the household kitten for the 2nd time and was very, very, VERY interested in the little thing. So much interest that he put the kittens tail in his mouth. So we are going to say NO cats for Koda.

Currently Koda is on a medical hold!
