09/16/2010: Sundae Is Sweeter Than Ever
Below is an update from Sundae's foster mom:
"Sundae is now about 6 months old. I can't believe how much she has grown since we picked her up. She weighs about 35 pounds now and it's all muscle and energy! She loves nothing better to race around the back yard chasing the other dogs, bugs or anything else that catches her eye. But after her run, then it's time for a nap on the couch.
She is still the cuddle bug at night however, now that she's getting bigger, she wants more space on the bed. She does great in the crate when left alone for short periods as long as there are toys for her to play with. She is such a loving dog. She gives kisses but will nip you accidently once in a while like most puppies who are earning the ropes.
I would not recommend putting her in a home with small children (under 5) because she will knock them over or could hurt them with her tail when it is wagging. She has started to jump up on people because she is so excited to see them, so we are working on that.
Sundae loves being around our "big" dogs and cuddles up to them when napping. Right now she is wedged in between our 9 year old female that we are fostering and our 13 year old male. She is such a sweet girl and I am forever grateful that NBR was able to rescue her."
08/11/10: Sundae Is As Sweet As Her Name
The puppy's name is Sundae and she was in a bad situation. A woman called NBR hoping we could help after taking Sundae to the shelter. They told her the dog would be killed because they had no empty kennels. The shelter gave her our phone number. When we told Lori, our volunteer, the story she said she would drive the 90 miles to get her. Needless to say we called the woman and said we would take Sundae into our Rescue Program.
Sundae was given to this woman by one of her neighbor's and she had her for two weeks. The puppy was tied out much of the day. We were told her 4 year old son who has ADD constantly teased the dog. She said she had to place the dog immediately because her landlord threatened her with eviction if the dog was not gone. Sundae had never been to the vet. She did give her an over the counter de-wormer and she said she expelled a huge number of worms.
We immediately scheduled a vet appointment for Sundae, however, the first night she was in her foster home they had to make an emergency run to the vet. Sundae had jumped off the bed and got her back leg caught between the mattress and the foot board. She was no able to put any weight on the leg. She needed to be checked out immediately to find out if she had any ligament tears or bone fractures.
The ER visit was $350 for x-rays and pain meds. However, we were relieved when the doctor told us she had only pulled a muscle. Within 24 hours, she was no longer favoring her leg. Sundae returned to the vet for her scheduled checkup and her inoculations. A spay appointment was made at that time, and she has recovered well. She is now ready to be placed in her new home.

“Sundae is a jewel and settling in nicely with the 'big dogs'. She is a sweet, little girl who loves to play with her toys and sleep curled up to the other dogs. I sent a picture of Sundae with the oldest dog in our household. T hese were taken right after I got her home from her spay surgery. They did it laproscopically and used skin glue instead of a big incision. She is bouncing around like nothing happened. Amazing....
Sundae is a looker. She is a sweetheart and a cuddle bug. Her eyes are so dramatic; it looks like someone took eyeliner and accented them. I especially love the white on the very tip of her tail, but watch out when she gets excited! That tail is like a whip! It will sting you....
She is very active and does all the normal puppy things like running around the yard, chewing on the big dogs and using them as a jungle gym. After a nap, she is ready to play again. She will need a home that has a lot of puppy patience and a fenced-in area for her to run off her excess energy.
She is doing great with housebreaking and crate training. She sleeps cuddled up next to my neck and doesn't move all night. She is soooo sweet, lovable and very affectionate. She likes to curl up next to you and gives kisses. She loves to play with the 'big dogs'. They put up with it for a long time, especially Parker (see pic). Then they let her know, they've had enough. I am so glad that the woman contacted NBR. I would have hated for this sweet girl to be put down.
Sundae is going to make some family a great companion.”
