My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

June 2011 ~ I am Roxi and I thought it was about time I gave you an update on myself! I am living in southern Maine with my fun foster family. I have two furry foster brothers that I just love - one is my playmate all the time and one is happy to let us play; he just watches us from the couch a lot and makes sure we are behaving ourselves (I always behave, of course!). I also have two older kids as my human siblings, and a cool mom and dad. My dad lets me share his recliner all the time and I think he's the coolest person alive! I love my family, going for walks, playing, investigating outside (it's that beagle nose of mine, I can't help it!) and napping. Here are some things I don't like - I get scared in new situations, like meeting strangers and when new people come into the house. I have to be very tough and protect my house and family, and I am working on settling down when they tell me everything is OK. I also like to protect them from new dogs but once they show me the new dog is friendly, I am usually just fine after a bit. I just have to be super sure of that! I am also protective when I am in the car and I ride very peacefully in a crate when I can't see out of the car. And speaking of crates, I don't mind if I have to stay in one for a while, but guess what? I don't even need it! I am just as happy to sleep in my dad's recliner or on his pillow all day if my family is not home.

My family tells me I have had a really hard start in life and that they are really proud of me for doing so much better. They are helping me to learn to relax, and with the help of my friend Sergei I am learning to be nice to new dogs and new people. If I meet them on neutral territory, no worries. They just can't come in unannounced otherwise I tell them to get out please (well, sometimes I forget the please part!). I am around three years old and I am as pretty as can be with expressive eyes and I am the perfect size for a dog, in my humble opinion (about 40 lbs). I have another new friend named Sara, and she's an animal communicator. She helped me relay to my family some important information about why I get scared sometimes. They know me so much better now. Love that! My ideal family would have just grown-ups or older kids who understand me, and I wouldn't mind being on "only dog" or having a mellow male buddy. If you work it's OK, as long as you give me exercise and lovin' when you get home ; 0 )

I do all my business outside, so no worries about housetraining, and once I like you, wowwee! We will be friends for life. You can get an application by emailingluckypuprescue@yahoo.com and you can meet me and see what a great girl I am!
Love,
Roxi

Roxi's vet bills totaled over $2000.00! If you are unable to adopt her perhaps you would consider donating to her care by clicking on the "donate" button below. She is worth every penny and we are looking forward to finding her a forever home this time. Without your help we cannot continue to take on the special needs cases - and where will that leave the dogs who need us the most?

**Please note: we do not have a physical location, we are supported by a network of wonderful foster homes that are spread throughout New England. A dog will need to be visited by a prospective adopter in the foster home where they are feeling safe and comfortable.**
