Amber's Story...
Amber has been through a lot. Fully pregnant and about to give birth, she narrowly escaped a house fire. Her family placed her at the vet's temporarily but then later decided they no longer wanted her or her unborn litter. She gave birth at the vet's, terrified, with all of the dogs and cats barking in nearby cages. When her kittens were two days old, she was transferred to us, where she could be in a quieter environment. Amber is very gentle and affectionate and loves to be around people. When she first arrived Amber was fearful of other cats and loud noises, however spending the last few years in foster care has allowed her to relax a great deal. She now enjoys the company other docile cats and doesn't mind sharing her space. Amber is stunning! Her striking green eyes and patchwork patterned fur really makes her stand out, but what really makes her shine is her amazing personality. She will sleep with you at night and supply you with a lifetime of purrs. Amber really needs is someone to give her a place to relax for the rest of her life, with a full supply of love. She is waiting patiently for that special family to scoop her up!

About PetitsPawz Cat Refuge of Montreal

About Our Rescue Group...

Susan Mackasey founded PetitsPawz in October 2009 after her 17 year old cat went missing for one week. As she diligently searched for her own cat, Susan encountered hundreds of stray and feral cats during those seven days. Seeing a greater need for trap neuter and release (TNR) and having her own vision for a rescue, PetitsPawz was then founded.

Over the past three years, PetitsPawz has saved and sterilized over 400 cats. While most of the cats have been adopted into wonderful permanent homes, the adult feral cats were re-introduced into their respective colonies, where caring volunteers are currently feed them twice daily. Our passion does not end with cats! As a matter of fact, PetitsPawz has also rescued more than a dozen dogs that were all in emergency situations.

With the help of volunteers and friends, Susan’s vision of saving cats has come such a long way.

Our Mission:

PetitsPawz is a registered non-profit organization dedicated to saving cats throughout the island of Montreal. A foster-based rescue, PetitsPawz is run entirely by devoted volunteers. It was created with three specific goals in mind:

Cat refuge:
To provide shelter and medical care to stray, abandoned and abused cats, with the goal of finding caring adoptive families for them.

TNR (Trap, neuter, release):
Sterilizing, vaccinating and re-releasing feral cats back into their established colonies. This prevents further reproduction and the spread of diseases. Feral cats have had little or no contact with humans, and are therefore unable to be domesticated.

Education plays a key role in change. PetitsPawz provides resources and information to cat owners about general care, the importance of sterilization and veterinary care as well as keeping cats indoors.
Tens of thousands of animals are abandoned throughout Quebec each year. Our goal is to help reduce these numbers one cat at a time, while providing a forever, loving home for every cat that is in our care.

Our Adoption Process...

PetitsPawz’ cats are all in foster homes where they are nurtured and socialized. While we do hold adoption days at various times, we also arrange private appointments so that potential adopters can meet the cats at their convenience.

If you are interested in adopting a cat or kitten, please begin by filling out the adoption application at the link provided below. Once we receive your fully completed application, we will contact you by phone for an interview. Following the telephone interview, we will set up an appointment to introduce you to the cat(s) that you are interested in adopting.

All of our cats are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, treated for worms and parasites.

Our adoption fees are:

Kittens and cats under 5 years: $160.00
Over 5 years and special needs cats: $85.00

At the time of adoption, the Adopter and a PetitsPawz representative will sign the adoption contract. We require 2 pieces of identification, including a medicare card. The Adopter will receive the cat’s medical history (if available), vaccination papers and adoption contract.

A day or two after your cat is in your care, we will call you for an update. You can also call PetitsPawz at anytime during the integration period with questions or concerns. If for any reason the adoption does not work out, we will immediately take the cat back into foster care and issued a full refund.
