Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Monty had to take a long journey to get here to safety, but he's undeniably worth it. He was turned in to Philadelphia Animal Control about a month ago. Obviously someone had cared for him because he was nicely groomed and clean even though he had been found as a stray.
The story really should have ended with his owner reuniting with him and whisking him back to this home, but no one ever came forward to claim him. No one knows why.
A month later, stuck in a tiny kennel with no one to brush him or even pet him, he was a grooming wreck. His fur was dingy, stinky and badly overgrown. It covered his eyes, so he couldn't even see what was happening. He looked nothing like his former self.
By sheer coincidence, New Lease on Life learned about the sweetie on the day he was scheduled to be euthanized. We called and made transport arrangements. That's when we learned what a wreck he had become.
The person in Philadelphia who puled him from the shelter immediately took him to the groomer who did away with all that yucky hair and gave him a good bath so he was smelling fresh and clean.
The first photo was actually taken on the day he finally arrived to safety in Ohio. He felt so much better and was so overjoyed to be clean that he just wanted to roll happily in the grass.
Monty is a very happy boy. He gets along well with other dogs, even dogs much bigge than him, and even likes cats. He will get nippy if his fur is pulled, so he's not recommended for small children but older, calmer children are fine.
Monty is completely housebroken when loose in the house, but can be crated easily if you prefer. He's used to both. He walks wonderfully on the leash and loves walks. He loves to run and play and is very easily carried.
Monty will be appearing at the adoption event September 11 at the Boardman PETCO if he has not already been adopted by then. Stop out to meet him 9am - 8pm OR schedule a private meeting with Monty before the event by calling 330-397-8270.
